Comprehensive Guide to Cursed Station in Metro 2033

Over a decade after its initial release, Metro 2033 remains a cherished gem in the video gaming world, especially with the recent surge in interest spurred by the VR-exclusive title, Metro Awakening. This game serves as the foundation for Artyom’s compelling journey through a post-apocalyptic Moscow, primarily navigating the labyrinthine underground tunnels. One of the pivotal locations in the game is the Cursed Station, known as Turgenevskaya in the novels and in reality. It is here that players first encounter various anomalies while assisting a group of survivors fend off continuous attacks from ferocious nosalises.

Players often face challenges during this mission due to vague instructions and a somewhat perplexing station layout. Following a harrowing encounter with an anomaly that decimates a nosalis horde, Khan and Artyom will travel via a railcar. The mission “Cursed”kicks off after this transit, where players must guide Artyom through the dark tunnels and encounter the beleaguered defenders stationed near barricaded escalators.

Locating the Bomb

Upon reaching the defenders, they relay critical information regarding an explosive crew that ventured down the tunnel earlier to plant a bomb to prevent a nosalis invasion. Unfortunately, this team has gone missing, with no detonation heard. The defenders enlist Artyom’s help to locate and deploy the bomb. Throughout the mission, players will constantly be besieged by nosalises. As Khan advises, if overwhelmed, retreating to the defenders for backup is a wise strategy. Expect to make at least one hurried trip back to safety while searching for the bomb.

The bomb is situated at the deep end of the right-hand tunnel. It’s advisable to avoid moving directly past the eerie shadows, as this can harm Artyom. Once you have secured the bomb, you can either proceed swiftly into the adjacent tunnel or head back to the defenders if you encounter too much resistance.

Executing the Tunnel Destruction

After obtaining the bomb, players need to delve into the left-hand tunnel (left from the defenders’ viewpoint) and wait for a cutscene to unfold. Artyom automatically sets the device and lights the fuse, but it falls to the player to make a quick escape. Be sure to run as far from the explosion zone as possible to avoid fatal damage.

If you prefer an alternative approach, you can throw a grenade or pipe bomb into the same tunnel area, which will achieve a similar collapse effect. However, note that even after demolishing this main passage, nosalises will still find alternative routes to invade, so stay vigilant and keep your weapons loaded.

Demolishing the Airlock

With the left-hand tunnel successfully destroyed, players must tackle one final task to secure the station. During the conversation with Khan and the defenders, references are made to an airlock that can also be obliterated to deter additional mutant threats. To locate this area, ascend the stairs on the right side of the main platform until you reach a torchlit space. Although numerous nosalises may be lurking here, it is unnecessary to engage them.

To fulfill the objective of destroying the airlock, approach the support columns and interact with them. This action prompts Artyom to place a pipe bomb with a lit fuse on the columns. Like with the tunnel, it’s crucial to vacate the area quickly to avoid being caught in the blast radius. Once both entrances are demolished, follow Khan to the next phase of the mission, which unfolds in a small shrine room. After a brief exchange with Khan, Artyom will need to descend through a panel in the floor, initiating the next mission termed “Armory.”
