Cuckoo: Streaming Options and Showtimes for Viewing

Film studio Neon has further expanded its footprint in the horror genre with the highly-anticipated thriller, Cuckoo, featuring the rising star Hunter Schafer. Best known for her breakout performance in HBO’s Euphoria, Schafer has quickly secured a prominent place in various film projects, making her leading role in Cuckoo a significant milestone in her blossoming career. This film not only showcases her talent but also serves as a major pivot, following her appearances in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Kinds of Kindness.

Joining Schafer are notable actors Jessica Henwick and Dan Stevens, which adds considerable star power to this indie horror feature. The excitement surrounding Cuckoo has built up thanks to its gripping trailers and the solid box office performance of Neon’s previous horror release, Longlegs. The decision to launch Cuckoo in theaters has proved advantageous, as it recouped a significant portion of its production budget in its initial run. Given the horror genre’s popularity, which often translates into strong box office numbers, the film is poised for continued success, potentially expanding its reach through streaming platforms later on.

Although details regarding the streaming release of Cuckoo were not initially confirmed by Neon, it was widely anticipated that Hulu would serve as the film’s primary streaming platform. This expectation stems from a collaborative agreement between Neon and Hulu, established several years ago, which ensures that Neon’s 2024 horror films, in particular, would be available on the platform. Historically, Neon has typically waited about 150 days post-theatrical release before transitioning its films to Hulu. Thus, a January 2025 streaming release seemed likely.

However, Neon has opted for a quicker transition to streaming, breaking from its established timeline and moving to Hulu sooner than initially projected. As confirmed, Cuckoo will officially become available for streaming on Hulu starting December 17. This expedited release means that subscribers with bundled services through Hulu will also have the opportunity to access this thrilling feature.

Additionally, Cuckoo can also be streamed via Prime Video, offering viewers more options to enjoy this film.

For those who prefer to bypass streaming altogether, Cuckoo is also available for digital purchase or rental. Typically, Neon releases its films on major premium video on demand (PVOD) platforms approximately 43 days after their theatrical debut. This approach accurately projected Cuckoo‘s digital release date for September 2024, allowing viewers to buy or rent the movie from home starting September 17. It can now be accessed on several popular digital platforms.
