Hulu’s latest true-crime docuseries, Little Miss Innocent: Passion. Poison. Prison., delves into the murder of Mary Yoder and explores the involvement of Kaitlyn Conely, the on-and-off girlfriend of Adam Yoder, Mary’s youngest son. This series sheds light on a case that continues to intrigue true crime enthusiasts, largely due to the numerous mysteries surrounding it.
Little Miss Innocent: Passion. Poison. Prison. premiered on September 20, 2024, and like many original true crime shows on Hulu, it experienced significant viewership from the outset. The synopsis of the series states:
“Tells the story of Kaitlyn Conley, a 31-year-old former receptionist who claims she has been wrongfully convicted of the 2015 killing of Mary Yoder, her former boss and the mother of her ex-boyfriend Adam.”
In addition to Kaitlyn Conley, who remains incarcerated, the investigation initially focused on Adam Yoder, who was accused of poisoning his mother out of greed. Authorities later determined that Kaitlyn had allegedly poisoned Mary Yoder as retaliation against Adam.
Adam was a central figure in the investigation from the very beginning and was consistently accused by Kaitlyn of the crime. He last made a public appearance during Kaitlyn’s trial, where he stated that his only error was introducing Kaitlyn to Mary. Since the trial, Adam has maintained a low profile, stepping away from the media spotlight.
Who is Adam Yoder and what was his role?
Adam Yoder is the youngest child and only son of Mary and William Yoder, both of whom were well-known chiropractic practitioners running a successful practice together. Adam met Kaitlyn Conley in 2011, and she subsequently became a receptionist for his parents.
Reports indicate that Adam and Kaitlyn had a tumultuous relationship, characterized by many breakups and extreme behavior from both sides.
Following Mary Yoder’s death, medical authorities determined she had been poisoned with a dangerous dose of Colchicine. Adam quickly became a person of interest because authorities received an anonymous tip suggesting his involvement, claiming that Colchicine was found in his car.
However, the circumstances appeared too convenient, prompting investigators to question if he had been framed. Upon a thorough investigation of Adam’s background, law enforcement turned their attention to Kaitlyn Conley. Evidence, including a receipt for the Colchicine discovered in Adam’s vehicle, further supported her alleged involvement.
Throughout the investigation, Adam maintained an alibi, having spent the day visiting his sister. His past with Kaitlyn also raised concerns, given that she had previously accused him of assault and attempted to give him unhealthy supplements that made him ill.
During trial proceedings, Kaitlyn’s defense team highlighted Adam’s history of alcohol abuse and his turbulent relationship with Kaitlyn. Ultimately, in her second trial, Kaitlyn Conley was convicted, thereby redirecting attention away from Adam Yoder, who reiterated that introducing Kaitlyn to his mother was his sole mistake.
Post-trial, following the extensive media coverage, Adam Yoder withdrew from public life and is currently living quietly.
