As we await the upcoming episode of See No Evil, let’s explore the details surrounding Corey Lee Hughes’s murder.
Who was Corey Lee Hughes and how was he killed?
Corey Lee Brown, born on February 18, 1992, grew up in Dubois County, Indiana. Known for his caring nature and his inclination to help others, Corey was one of the last individuals anyone would suspect of becoming a homicide victim.
By June 2019, Corey was a father to three children: Eric Hughes, Karson Hughes, and Kali Snow Hughes. He shared two of these children with Megan Frazier. Despite living separately, Corey was a committed father and co-parent.
On the morning of June 21, 2019, a worried neighbor reported to 911 upon discovering a man lying in a pool of blood outside his residence, which appeared to be vandalized. When the police arrived, they found Corey Lee Brown shot in the head. Although he was still breathing upon arrival at Deaconess Hospital in Indiana, he tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
How was Brandon Key Brown involved in the murder?
As investigators began to piece together the evidence, they determined that Corey was alive until approximately 7:14 AM, about 15 minutes prior to the 911 call. This time frame established when the murder occurred. The authorities also discovered a surveillance camera located across from Corey’s home, which showed a white SUV parked outside for 4-6 minutes, during which a man exited the vehicle.
A tip soon confirmed that this individual was Brandon Key Brown, who had an extensive criminal background, including charges of battery, robbery, and theft.
Upon locating the vehicle depicted in the surveillance footage, police interrogated Brown and uncovered further evidence, such as traces of blood in his car that connected him to the murder. Under the stress of the questioning, Brown claimed he had knocked on Corey’s door, but shockingly, Corey attacked him with a knife.
According to Brown’s account, he blacked out during the altercation and only regained consciousness while driving away. However, the jury found this explanation unconvincing, leading Brandon to plead guilty in June 2020. He was subsequently sentenced to 65 years in prison and his appeal in July 2020 was denied.
At present, Brandon Key Brown is serving his sentence at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Indiana.
The forthcoming episode of See No Evil will provide further insights into this complex case.
