Cyberpunk 2077 continues to evolve, offering players an enriched experience through various updates, building on the solid foundation laid at its launch. Despite its initial share of bugs and glitches, the game has become increasingly polished. After the significant alterations brought by the transformative 2.1 update, it was thought that support for the game might be winding down. However, CD Projekt Red has surprised the gaming community yet again with the announcement of Update 2.2 during one of its widely-followed livestreams, which showcases an array of fresh features.
While few updates can match the seismic changes of Update 2.1, anticipation around Update 2.2 has sparked renewed interest among players. Many are drawn back to the neon-lit streets of Night City at the prospect of new adventures as V. For some, however, a more substantial update will be necessary to motivate a return to the game. Thankfully, Update 2.2 offers several sought-after features, even if it doesn’t completely overhaul the game.
Update 2.2: Significant Enhancements for Cyberpunk 2077
New Customization Options and Enhanced Photo Mode
The freshly launched Update 2.2 has been dubbed the “Express Yourself”update. It primarily focuses on enhancing customization options, refining the photo mode, and elevating car dynamics within the game. Players can access the complete patch notes, featuring numerous changes. Though it doesn’t address all lingering issues, it greatly enriches the gameplay experience for those still exploring Night City.
Significantly, this update was created in collaboration with Virtuos, a French support studio, which aligns with CD Projekt Red’s focus on other key projects, such as the impending The Witcher 4. During the informative livestream, key members, including Associate Game Director Paweł Sasko, elaborated on the new features and the rationale behind the update:
“I realized when working on the previous patches for Cyberpunk 2077, that it always worked well for our players when there was a consistent, cohesive thought behind the patch […] Pretty early we had this idea of, we would love to give our players a way to express themselves more in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.”
The continued commitment to Cyberpunk 2077 highlights the game’s potential, debunking the negativity it once faced. The update’s features cater to the passionate community, particularly those dedicated to the photo mode, who have long requested improvements. This exciting update is set to launch on December 10, 2025, and promises to be well-received among players.
Enhanced Car Customization Features for Players
Unleashing the TwinTone System for New Color Options
One of the standout features from Update 2.2 is the enhanced ability to customize vehicles. Previously limited to the Aerondight and Caliburn Rayfield models, players can now modify cars from brands like Herrera, Quadra, Mizutani, and Villefort. This includes altering various components, adjusting hue and saturation, configuring headlight colors, and designing unique paint jobs.
Thanks to the introduction of the TwinTone System, players can scan vehicles in Night City to acquire their color schemes and apply them instantly. This feature is particularly valuable during police pursuits, allowing players to quickly change their car’s appearance, which can confuse law enforcement and expedite their escape. However, while this feature can break the line of sight momentarily, getting too close to the police will trigger recognition and continued pursuit.
Moreover, players can look forward to acquiring 10 additional cars from the Autofixer menu, consisting of eight from the base game and two from the Phantom Liberty expansion—only accessible to those who own that specific content. Lastly, players might encounter Johnny, who can now randomly appear in the car next to the player, providing commentary on their driving skills. Although he won’t appear in quests, this feature enhances the immersive open-world experience.
Improvements to Photo Mode and Character Creation
New Character Creation Elements to Enhance Customization
In addition to vehicle customization, the photo mode has undergone substantial enhancements. The overall user interface received a facelift, greatly improving user experience. The new drone mode allows players to place the camera further away for more creative shots, alongside a highly anticipated feature allowing players to disable collisions, making for unforgettable photographic opportunities.
Moreover, players can explore 112 newly added assets in the character creator, enabling deeper personalization options. PC users can adjust the aspect ratio for their photographs, while console players can spawn NPCs, including notable characters like Adam Smasher, in their snapshots. Players can even display their best photos in V’s apartment using new Smart Frames, showcasing unforgettable moments throughout their journeys in Night City.
The newly introduced randomizer tool in the character creator is another noteworthy feature, granting players the ability to discover unique looks. Users can adjust the slider between zero and ten to influence design randomness, helping those who may feel overwhelmed by the options to find an appealing character quickly. This selection process can significantly enhance engagement and enjoyment, as players customize characters to fit their unique style.
Overall, Cyberpunk 2077’s Update 2.2 introduces a variety of features aimed at heightening player enjoyment and fostering creativity within the game’s immersive world. Enhanced customization options and community-focused improvements set an optimistic tone for the game’s future, further raising expectations for its anticipated sequel.
