Cyberpunk 2.2 Update Introduces New Color Coats, Enhanced Customization Features & Collaborations With a New Studio

The team behind Cyberpunk 2077 showcased the highlights of the highly anticipated version 2.2 update during a recent livestream event. Following the extensive 2.0 update released last year alongside the Phantom Liberty DLC, which significantly revamped gameplay dynamics and progression systems, update 2.1 added further enhancements in December. Fans were surprised and excited by the sudden announcement of version 2.2 during the live REDStreams broadcast today.

In collaboration with Virtuos, the Cyberpunk 2077 version 2.2 update introduces an array of exciting new features. Key additions encompass enhanced vehicle customization, a more versatile photo mode, refined character creation options, and improved interactions with NPCs.

Version 2.2 is officially available today, December 10, 2024. Players can swiftly download the update from their preferred gaming platforms, mere moments following the livestream.

What’s New in Cyberpunk 2077’s Version 2.2 Update

Customization, Photo Mode, & More Features

The version 2.2 update is set to transform vehicles with comprehensive customization options. One of the most exciting features is the introduction of the CrystalCoat mechanic, which allows players to alter paint colors on a wider selection of cars, not just the previously exclusive Rayfield brands. Additionally, players can now “steal”paint designs from passing vehicles using the in-game scanner, enabling them to change colors dynamically.

For those looking to evade the law, changing paint colors while out of sight may offer a tactical advantage against the police.

Enhancing the gameplay experience further, Johnny Silverhand will periodically appear as a passenger alongside V. This addition serves to increase immersion as Johnny offers commentary on driving, provides directions, or simply engages in casual conversation during their journeys throughout Night City. The developers emphasized that his presence should enhance storytelling by making him feel more involved in the overarching narrative.

The revamped photo mode also introduces substantial improvements. Players can now navigate the camera with greater freedom, utilizing a “drone mode” for innovative angles and perspectives. With collision disabled, players are free to frame shots around obstacles like NPCs and objects without obstruction. Further enhancements include refined settings for contrast, exposure, and depth of field, alongside new posing options for NPCs. After capturing memorable moments, players can even display their photographs in digital frames within their in-game apartments.

The character creator has also expanded with exciting new content. Version 2.2 brings a total of 112 new items, including additional options for hair, nails, eyes, and cybernetic enhancements. A new randomizer tool allows players to define the level of randomness, from “Plain” to “Punk,” and retain desired attributes of randomly generated characters, facilitating a personalized player experience.

Our Perspective: Discovering Secrets in Cyberpunk 2.2

Dive Into the Updates

Some audience members expressed disappointment during the livestream, noting that much of the new content leaned heavily towards cosmetic upgrades without substantial gameplay changes. User @AimBotThug criticized the updates as minimal and suggested that the livestream chat might have been artificially inflated by bots. This sentiment echoes among players who had high hopes following the groundbreaking effects of the 2.0 update.

Nevertheless, a notable aspect of each Cyberpunk update is the thrill of uncovering hidden secrets, often left unspoken by the developers. During the presentation, they teased secrets from previous updates—lore-relevant stickers that players have yet to locate, alongside hints of new lore details, visual changes, and Easter eggs within the 2.2 update. While features like CrystalCoat and Johnny’s presence contribute to the fun, the prospect of discovering hidden secrets remains the most tantalizing aspect of this new update.
