While speculated castings should always be treated with caution, the possibility of Daisy Edgar-Jones portraying one of Jane Austen’s legendary characters truly excites me. I’m all for seeing Edgar-Jones step into the Regency era—it’s an opportunity I crave!
As per the Daily Mail, reports indicate that Edgar-Jones is poised to take on the role of Elizabeth Bennet in an upcoming Netflix adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. According to the article, Dolly Alderton is currently developing the scripts, and while the search for Mr. Darcy is underway, no announcements have been made yet. Even if we lack verified details, I must say this casting feels like an excellent choice!
There’s also a growing movement among fans advocating for a reunion of Normal People by suggesting Paul Mescal for the role of Mr. Darcy. “The consensus is clear: Paul Mescal is the perfect fit for Mr. Darcy if Daisy Edgar-Jones is playing Elizabeth Bennet,” stated one Twitter user.
It seems that, from the internet’s perspective, there’s no other option. The idea of a Mescal and Edgar-Jones reunion has captured widespread enthusiasm.

Numerous individuals are calling for it. “Paul Mescal, pick up your phone!” Personally, I’d be thrilled for her to collaborate with another heartthrob. She has previously worked alongside Mescal, Sebastian Stan, Andrew Garfield, Glen Powell, and Jacob Elordi. With such an array of leading men, why not explore a fresh face for Darcy? Nonetheless, I wouldn’t mind seeing Mescal’s interpretation of Fitzwilliam.
Putting that aside, this Netflix adaptation is rumored to be a series, allowing further exploration of the Bennet sisters. The thought of a slow-paced storyline excites me; having each sister shine in their own right could be splendid.
Regardless, my primary focus remains on Edgar-Jones as Lizzie.
A fantastic pick for Lizzie
The Bennet sisters hold significant meaning for young women globally. This landmark novel illustrated women gaining agency in their romantic endeavors, with Lizzie taking a stand for herself and her sister Jane throughout the story. Every rendition of Pride & Prejudice highlights Lizzie’s resilience as a woman, and I genuinely believe Edgar-Jones will excel in this role.
Edgar-Jones has a remarkable ability to portray her characters’ strength without overshadowing other dimensions of their personality. In Twisters, her portrayal of Kate navigated complex trauma while still showcasing moments of lightness and joy with Tyler (Glen Powell). It was a stunning performance that leaves me eager to see what she brings to Lizzie.
I consider her one of our most talented actresses today, and I sincerely hope these casting reports are accurate. With Edgar-Jones as Lizzie Bennet, my hope is that Netflix successfully fills the remaining roles for the Bennet sisters and our cherished Fitzwilliam Darcy. If this doesn’t materialize, I’ll be quite disappointed.
