Damian Williams Explains Indictment Against Diddy, Asserts Rapper Poses Danger to Society

On September 16, Damian Williams, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, held a press conference to provide updates regarding the arrest and indictment of Sean “Diddy”Combs. During the announcement, Williams revealed that authorities had seized various weapons and ammunition from the rapper’s residences in Miami and Los Angeles. This included a drum magazine, three AR-15 rifles with altered serial numbers, and additional firearms.

The district attorney mentioned that photo and video evidence related to Combs’ alleged “Freak Offs”was collected during the raids. He emphasized that the investigation into Diddy’s activities is ongoing and labeled the music mogul as a “danger to society.”

When questioned about the specific number of victims involved, Williams stated only that there were “multiple” victims in the case.

Damian Williams serves as the head of the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. He is an alumnus of Yale Law School, Cambridge University, and Harvard University. His legal career includes a position as a law clerk for both Judge Merrick B. Garland at the US Court of Appeals and Justice John Paul Stevens at the US Supreme Court.

Notable Cases Managed by Damian Williams

Damian Williams is distinguished as the first Black US Attorney for the Southern District of New York. He earned his recommendation from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in March 2021 and was subsequently nominated by President Biden in August 2021, assuming the role of chief federal law enforcement officer for the district.

In his capacity as district attorney, Williams oversees all federal offense investigations and prosecutions, as well as civil litigation involving US interests.

Furthermore, Williams chairs the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee (AGAC), a select group of US Attorneys that advises the Attorney General on administrative, procedural, and policy matters.

Between 2007 and 2008, Williams served as a law clerk for Judge Merrick Garland at the United States Court of Appeals and followed this by clerking for US Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens from 2008 to 2009. He also gained experience as a litigation associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison from 2009 to 2012.

From 2012 to 2021, Williams held the position of assistant US attorney (AUSA) in the Southern District of New York, where he led the securities and commodities fraud task force.

Throughout his career, Williams has been involved in numerous high-profile cases, such as those concerning crypto hedge fund CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and socialite Ghislaine Maxwell. His efforts also contributed to the conviction of Sheldon Silver, the former speaker of the New York State Assembly, on corruption charges in 2018. Additionally, Williams has prosecuted several other notable figures, including Senator Bob Menendez.
