  • The trailer for Daredevil: Born Again confirms that certain plot points from the Netflix series are integrated into the MCU.
  • Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are set to reprise their roles in the eagerly anticipated release on March 2025.
  • The trailer suggests that Kingpin is aware of Daredevil’s secret identity.

The Daredevil: Born Again trailer was unveiled during the New York Comic-Con 2024 event. Although this preview hasn’t been made publicly accessible yet, leaked footage has surfaced online, affirming that at least one major event from the Netflix iteration is considered canon.

Daredevil: Born Again signals the much-anticipated return of Charlie Cox as Daredevil, nearly seven years following the cancellation of the character’s original Netflix series. While Cox’s portrayal of Matt Murdock has made brief appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Marvel’s Echo, those were merely guest spots limited to single scenes. The team behind Daredevil: Born Again has been vague about the integration of the Netflix series into the MCU or whether the Disney Plus show will feature alternate versions of beloved characters from the earlier series. However, the latest trailer verifies that an event from Daredevil’s third season is indeed part of the ongoing narrative.

During New York Comic-Con 2024, both Cox and Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio attended to promote Daredevil: Born Again, which debuted its first full trailer and confirmed a release date of March 4, 2025. Footage of the trailer was captured by Shade Studios’ Marissa Hill, providing fans who couldn’t be present at the convention a sneak peek of several beloved characters in action. The trailer highlights White Tiger in her costume, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher facing off against Matt Murdock, along with the long-awaited returns of Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page and Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson—two characters adored by fans from the original Netflix series and close allies of Matt Murdock. However, their appearances were only solidified following significant rewrites of Daredevil: Born Again.

Perhaps the most striking highlight from the trailer is the interaction between Matt Murdock and Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again. Although these characters have appeared in various MCU projects, they have not shared the screen since the Netflix series ended. The trailer depicts a tense meeting at a diner, where Matt Murdock warns Kingpin that he’ll be ready should the crime boss overstep his boundaries. In response, Kingpin questions whether the warning comes from Matt Murdock or his “darker half,”hinting at his awareness of Daredevil’s true identity. This suggests that Kingpin learning Daredevil’s secret at the conclusion of the Netflix show’s third season is part of the MCU canon.

Alternatively, it is possible that Kingpin uncovered Daredevil’s identity through a different means in the MCU universe. Marvel Studios may choose to selectively incorporate events from the Netflix series when relevant, yet allow for flexibility should they wish to take the story in a new direction with Daredevil: Born Again. With just about four months remaining until its release on Disney Plus, fans will soon learn more.

Daredevil: Born Again is set to premiere on Disney Plus on March 4, 2025.
