Game Rant proudly presents exclusive details about The Witcher: The Bear and the Butterfly, the latest addition to Dark Horse Comics’ expanding collection of graphic novels inspired by CD Projekt Red’s acclaimed The Witcher franchise. This new title aims to provide fans with distinct narratives that draw inspiration more from the games than from Andrzej Sapkowski’s original writings.

Although CD Projekt Red’s game series is rooted in Sapkowski’s literary works, Dark Horse has primarily crafted original storylines for its comic adaptations. Notably, the only direct adaptation from Sapkowski’s texts is in the second volume, Fox Children, which partially interprets the author’s sixth Witcher novel, Season of Storms.

The inaugural issue of The Bear and the Butterfly promises to be an exciting read, featuring a narrative crafted by Simon Spurrier. The story unfolds around a secluded town plagued by a lethal vampire, which has drawn the attention of various monster hunters, including Geralt of Rivia himself. Notably, another witcher from the School of the Bear enters the fray, providing a thrilling rivalry as they both seek the bounty.

Fans can look forward to the four-issue series, starting with the first issue on April 23, 2025, available for pre-order at a price of $4.99 through local comic shops. While Dark Horse has yet to announce specific release dates for the subsequent issues, previous trends indicate they might arrive roughly a month apart.

The artwork for the series is compelling, with the main cover designed by Stephen Green, known for his contributions to Hellboy and Sea of Stars. The variant covers showcase the artistic talents of Aaron Campbell, Mattia De Iulis, and Tim Von Rueden. Additionally, the comic features colors by José Villarrubia and lettering by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou.

With The Bear and the Butterfly, Dark Horse marks the tenth series in The Witcher comic library. This release follows the recent five-issue series titled Corvo Bianco, which ran from May to November 2024, and will coincide with the publication of Sapkowski’s latest novel, Raven’s Crossing, focused on a younger Geralt. Released in Poland on December 1, 2024, the English translation is anticipated in early 2025.
