In the latest update for Dead by Daylight, Michael Myers underwent significant changes that impacted one of his most iconic playstyles. As one of the game’s veteran killers and the first licensed character introduced, it’s not surprising that Myers has received adjustments over time. The most recent rework remodeled several of his core mechanics while still preserving the essence of his gameplay. However, these changes notably weakened one of his popular builds.
What makes Myers, better known as The Shape, a compelling presence in Dead by Daylight is his ability to adapt based on his add-ons. Primarily, he operates as a straightforward killer with a unique power to down survivors in one hit. Players could swap this one-hit capability for aura reading through the Vanity and Scratched Mirror add-ons, or they could prolong the one-shot ability indefinitely with the Fragrant Tuft of Hair. By combining the Fragrant Tuft with Judith’s Tombstone, Myers could eliminate survivors without the need for hooks, reinforcing his lethal reputation. While Myers is not the most dominant killer in the game, he has managed to maintain a steady level of popularity amongst players.
Changes to Michael Myers’ Instakill Build Make Gameplay More Challenging
Difficulty of Myers’ Instant Kill Setup Increases Significantly
Myers’ Infinite Tier 3 Mori build has long been regarded as one of the most formidable setups in Dead by Daylight, effectively making use of both iridescent add-ons. However, updates introduced in 8.4.0 have severely reduced its efficacy. The penalties associated with the Fragrant Tuft of Hair and Judith’s Tombstone have been significantly increased, requiring Myers to engage in more stalking than before to reach Tier 3 and activate their powers. Consequently, this build’s weakness—the time invested to become fully operational—has intensified, setting it up to fail in many situations.
Although the Stalk generated from each Survivor has effectively doubled, it does not enhance the speed at which Myers accumulates it. The result is a configuration that struggles to achieve Tier 3 status, making it less viable for players seeking to dominate their matches.
Achieving Key Milestones Has Become Exceedingly Difficult
This alteration complicates the pursuit of a specific achievement available exclusively to those who play as Myers. The Evil Incarnate achievement demands that players execute a Mori on all four survivors in a single match while in Tier 3. Yet, due to the recent nerfs to iridescent add-ons, achieving this goal has now become substantially more complex. To succeed, players will require a lucky run or disorganized opponents, as any substantial strategy would likely falter after the updates. Alternatively, players might opt for a modified Mori build that sacrifices the Infinite Tier 3 advantage in favor of more reliability.
Myers’ Kit Remains Functional Except for His Mori-Centric Playstyle
Despite the significant impact on his most formidable build, Myers retains a fair level of functionality through various other strategies. While he might not rank among the top-tier killers in Dead by Daylight, the standard version of Myers operates competently. The alternate Scratched Mirror Myers configuration remains unaffected by the Stalk adjustments, as his kit emphasizes aura reading instead. While this change slightly alters how he stalks survivors from a distance, it poses some challenges on closed maps where proximity matters.
Following the most recent patch, the allure of the Infinite Tier 3 Myers build has diminished significantly. While there is potential for future updates to modify or reverse these changes, players must currently contend with Myers’ weakened state. The longevity of his infamous double iridescent build is in doubt, as the setup now demands excessive time investment—something players cannot afford to lose in competitive matches. As a result, Michael Myers’ once-fearsome playstyle now appears far less menacing in the realm of Dead by Daylight.
