Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Deadpool / Wolverine #1
Although Deadpool is not a mutant himself, he has spent a significant part of his comic journey alongside the beloved X-Men. In his latest adventure, however, he finds himself in an alliance that poses a grave threat to the existence of the remaining mutants. While Wolverine valiantly attempts to save his friend from his darker inclinations, a sinister plot emerges, led by a surprising antagonist, putting both heroes in jeopardy while targeting the last remnants of mutantkind.
The new series, Deadpool / Wolverine, written by Benjamin Percy with artwork by Joshua Cassara, drops readers into a high-stakes narrative where Deadpool has fallen under the influence of a mysterious nanotech implant capable of mind control.
When Deadpool tracks down Wolverine for an unexpected mission, he presents a far more serious demeanor than usual. As they embark on a path leading to their potential graves, an AI shockingly identifies Wade as an “X-Cutioner.”Despite Wolverine’s attempts to intervene, the anti-hero ultimately submits to an unexpected adversary.
Stryfe Returns As Deadpool’s New Master
Stryfe has faced numerous defeats at the hands of the X-Men in recent years, with his repetitive schemes against them turning into futile pursuits. His resurrection isn’t what catches the reader’s attention, but rather the surprising grip he has over Deadpool coupled with the infamous title of X-Cutioner. Wolverine, who thought that term was long gone, now finds it resurfacing with dire implications.
The original X-Cutioner represents an anti-mutant fanatic utilizing alien weaponry with the sole intent of exterminating mutantkind. Though there was a period during which he sought redemption, he is now embroiled with Homines Verendi, a ruthless anti-mutant organization steered by former leaders of the Hellfire Club. Among the various types of advanced weaponry discovered by Wolverine and Deadpool in an X-Cutioner hideout, a new Legacy Virus and combat suits designed for Cyclops and Jubilee were also found—indicating that Stryfe has meticulously laid plans to execute his next moves against mutants.
Stryfe’s New Plans to Eradicate Mutantkind Are a Complex Conspiracy
Wolverine May Not Be Clever Enough to Solve it On His Own
Current speculation indicates that Stryfe, possibly in collaboration with the X-Cutioner, has been orchestrating a time-travel scheme where several X-Men were abducted and implanted with advanced technology. Upon his anticipated return, he could activate these implants, deploying nanobots to seize control of the X-Men. With his enemies unwittingly serving him and equipped with alien technology and the Legacy Virus, the faded remnants of mutantkind would be unable to resist his overwhelming intentions. If true, the X-Men’s challenges surpass mere internal conflicts within their ranks.
Stryfe, a clone of Cable, has devolved into a relentless entity purely driven to exterminate all mutants. With his return, the very essence of mutantkind hangs in the balance. Utilizing each opportunity his time manipulation affords him, Stryfe’s calculated maneuvers pose a serious threat that may outsmart Wolverine when it truly matters. As he gears up to annihilate the mutants, Deadpool unexpectedly stands at his side, complicating the equation drastically.
Deadpool / Wolverine #1 is now available from Marvel Comics, marking a thrilling chapter in the lives of these iconic characters.
