In the world of gaming, few rivalries can rival the iconic clash between Marvel and DC, a feud that is about to gain new momentum thanks to the popular battle royale game, Fortnite. As December unfolds, players can expect an exciting influx of character skins from both comic book giants, potentially reigniting their long-standing rivalry.
Fortnite is well-known for its collaborations with various brands, celebrities, and influencers. The concurrent release of skins from both DC and Marvel in the in-game shop hints at not merely coexistence but possibly a more competitive dynamic reminiscent of their comic book histories.
DC Skins Reemerge in Fortnite
Epic Games frequently rotates character skins in Fortnite’s virtual shop, and on December 3, their X (formerly Twitter) account brought delightful news: Three beloved DC character skins will return. Those players eagerly awaiting these skins will be able to purchase outfits for Starfire, Harley Quinn, and Catwoman’s Comic Book Outfit throughout December. Notably, these skins haven’t been available for over a year, with Starfire’s last appearance dating back to September 2022.
In addition to the returning DC skins, Fortnite will welcome a new wave of comic-based cosmetics as part of the Fornite x Marvel Rivals collaboration, debuting this month.
Marvel Characters Join the Battle
The Marvel Rivals-themed update introduces new skins and back bling centered around characters from this exciting new shooter. Notably, the “Rivaled Sailer Glider” pays homage to Galacta, a notable NPC within the game. Moreover, leaks suggest that Doom 2099 will soon join the lineup as a playable skin.
Furthermore, players can now sport skins for three additional Spider-Verse characters: Spider-Punk, Peter B. Parker, and Spider-Man Noir, complementing the introduction of Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2099 earlier this year. This infusion of Marvel content neatly coincides with the resurrections of DC characters like Starfire, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn, merging the universes in a way that raises the stakes for fans of both franchises.
DC vs. Marvel: The Rivalry Resumes in Fortnite
With both Marvel and DC prepared to unleash highly anticipated films in 2025—Marvel’s “Thunderbolts”and James Gunn’s inaugural entry into his DC Universe with “Superman”—the excitement in both fandoms is palpable. Such hype could spill onto platforms like Fortnite, where promotional content is not uncommon.
This development is intriguing, considering that the December releases comprise mainly re-releases. However, if both franchises coordinate their re-launches, Fortnite may soon be overflowing with hero skins, drawing mixed reactions from players. The simultaneous availability of Marvel and DC skins could very well spark a heated competition in the world of Fortnite cosmetics.
