Defeating the Emerald-Armed Mantis Boss in Black Myth Wukong: A Complete Guide

Defeating the Emerald-Armed Mantis Boss in Black Myth Wukong: A Complete Guide

The Emerald-Armed Mantis is one of the ultimate bosses you must conquer to reach the final stages of Black Myth: Wukong. While it isn’t the most crushingly difficult boss in the game, the Emerald-Armed Mantis stands out as one of the most challenging encounters in Chapter 6 – Mount Huaguo, rivaled only by the formidable Supreme Inspector.

In contrast to the previous three bosses you faced to obtain parts of the Monkey King’s set, the Emerald-Armed Mantis lacks any elemental abilities. However, its sheer power and agility compensate for this, making it quite a formidable opponent for players attempting the Resolute Counter.

Fortunately, this boss has certain weaknesses that can be exploited for a potentially easier victory.

Strategies to Defeat the Emerald-Armed Mantis in Black Myth: Wukong

The Emerald-Armed Mantis presents a single-phase boss fight, unlike the multi-phase fight against the Cloudtreading Deer. Although it has less total HP than other bosses in this final chapter of Black Myth: Wukong, it remains one of the tougher adversaries due to its aggressive behavior and a particularly lethal attack combination.

One of its brutal attacks involves the Emerald-Armed Mantis coating its arm blades with blood and spinning rapidly while drastically closing the gap to the Destined One. This brutal combo delivers over 8 consecutive hits, capable of staggering and even eliminating the Destined One quickly.

Aside from this move, the remainder of the Mantis’s attack patterns are relatively easy to read and counter. However, this boss can execute the “blade spin”multiple times during the fight. Thankfully, there are straightforward methods to either evade this attack or endure it, even for those unsure of their dodge timings.

Here are some helpful tips to assist you in battling the Emerald-Armed Mantis in Black Myth: Wukong:

  • Before facing the Emerald-Armed boss, equip the Bull King’s set alongside any parts of the Monkey King’s set you’ve collected in Chapter 6. It’s also strongly recommended to unlock and equip the Loongwreathe Staff.
  • The Mantis is particularly vulnerable to nearly every elemental attack except Poison. Utilize either Immobilize followed by a charged heavy attack to stun it momentarily. Alternatively, you can deploy the Apramana Bat Spirit to not only immobilize it but also inflict Frost damage.
  • Once the boss’s health drops to 75%, expect a significant increase in its aggression.
  • Keep a few Mirage Pills handy to replenish your Might gauge. The most reliable way to evade the “blade spin”attack is using a Transformation Spell, preferably Golden Lining or Red Tides, and either dodging or tanking through the assault.
  • If you exhaust your Might and need to transform again, use the Mirage Pills to refill your Might gauge. You can also attempt a Perfect Dodge to evade this attack, though it can be challenging to master consistently.
  • For your Stance, choose the Smash Stance, fully upgraded with all four Focus nodes unlocked. Smash Stance’s charged attacks can easily stagger the Mantis and interrupt some of its actions.
  • Lastly, remember to utilize the Plantain Fan to stagger the Emerald-Armed Mantis, especially during the latter portion of the boss fight.

The Loongwreathe Staff is among the most potent weapons in Black Myth: Wukong and can be acquired through the Loong questline, following the defeat of the Yellow Loong. The Plantain Fan is crucial for this boss battle and is automatically unlocked after defeating the Yaksha King and completing Chapter 5 – The Flaming Mountains.

Defeating the Emerald-Armed Mantis rewards you with the final piece of the Monkey King’s set: the Dian-Cui Loong-Soaring Braces.
