Diddy Denied Bail: Judge Supports Prosecutors’ Argument of Rapper Being a Flight Risk

Sean “Diddy”Combs will remain in federal custody after being denied bail as he faces serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sexual trafficking.

During an arraignment on Tuesday, September 17, federal prosecutors argued for Combs’ continued detention despite his efforts to sell his Los Angeles home and his private plane. They submitted a detention letter that detailed the music mogul’s “dozens of bank accounts”and “millions of dollars.”The prosecutors asserted:

“The defendant’s vast resources make him a flight risk even without a passport, private plane, or multiple residences.”

In response, Diddy’s defense team proposed that he be placed under home detention with a hefty $50 million bond. However, prosecutors deemed this arrangement as “plainly insufficient.”Additionally, Assistant US Attorney Emily Johnson informed the judge that Combs should not be granted bail due to his history of assaulting victims. She expressed concern, stating that the rapper had previously made contact with some victims, leading to “witnesses universally expressing fear”of him.

Ultimately, Judge Robyn Tarnofsky ruled in favor of the prosecutors, denying the bail request. She conveyed to Diddy that she found no assurances that he would appear in court if released.

Diddy’s attorney plans to appeal the bail ruling

Following the hearing, Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifico, expressed his frustration over the bail denial. He pointed out that the hip-hop artist had voluntarily “turned himself in”by boarding a plane.

Agnifilo announced that his legal team aims to appeal the judge’s decision. The bail appeal is scheduled to occur the following day in the same courtroom but before a different judge. The attorney reiterated their unwavering support for his client, stating:

“He’s going to clear his name and we’re going to stand by his side as he does. We believe in him wholeheartedly.”

Combs will be maintained at the Special Housing Unit in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn until his next court appearance on Wednesday afternoon. This special housing unit is designed for inmates who need additional protection, setting them apart from the general prison population.

During a press conference on Tuesday, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York detailed the charges against him, which include “racketeering conspiracy, sexual trafficking, and interstate transportation for prostitution.”

Combs entered a “not guilty”plea to all charges during the court proceedings on Tuesday. His attorney had indicated to reporters before the hearing that “he’s innocent of these charges.”
