With the release of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora last December and Star Wars Outlaws launching just last month, Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment is certainly keeping busy. However, there are more exciting developments on the horizon. Approximately a year ago, Ubisoft and Massive announced the early development of The Division 3, with Julian Gerighty, who co-directed both previous entries, set to be the executive producer for the sequel. Gerighty is poised to transition into this role after completing his duties as the creative director for Star Wars Outlaws.
Now that Outlaws has been out for about a month, Gerighty is indeed gearing up to shift his focus to The Division 3. In a recent interview, he mentioned that he would continue overseeing the newly-released sci-fi game for another month before concentrating on The Division 3. During his absence, a group of “highly experienced Massive team members”will carry on with Star Wars Outlaws.
Ubisoft recently disclosed that Star Wars Outlaws did not achieve its expected sales figures at launch, with estimates suggesting it sold less than a million units by the end of August. The game is set to release on Steam on November 21, accompanied by its first expansion, Wild Run. The next expansion, A Pirate’s Fortune, will debut in spring 2025, while a new free patch is scheduled for release on October 3.
