Julia Roberts has long dazzled audiences with her remarkable performances across various genres. Her iconic portrayal in Erin Brockovich (2000) not only earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress but also solidified her status as one of Hollywood’s leading stars. Additionally, her noteworthy performances in films like Steel Magnolias (1990), Pretty Woman (1991), and August: Osage County (2014) have garnered her nominations for both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. Although Roberts is renowned for her roles in romantic comedies, she has also successfully ventured into biographical dramas, thrillers, and even ensemble heist films such as Ocean’s Eleven (2001) and Ocean’s Twelve (2004).
Roberts’ cinematic journey commenced with an uncredited role in the 1987 film Firehouse. Since that humble beginning, she has accumulated an impressive filmography, appearing in numerous beloved films. Recently, she has broadened her horizons by taking on roles in television series, including Homecoming and Gaslit, along with guest appearances in popular shows like Law & Order and Miami Vice. Looking ahead, her next project marks her return to the screen following the mixed reception of Leave the World Behind (2023), and it promises to be yet another display of her incredible talent.
What Julia Roberts’ Upcoming Performance Means for After the Hunt
Julia Roberts: The Main Attraction for After the Hunt
Roberts’ next significant project is After the Hunt, directed by Luca Guadagnino, known for his work on Challengers. This psychological thriller will portray a college professor, played by Roberts, grappling with serious allegations lodged against her colleague. The film features an ensemble cast, including Andrew Garfield, Ayo Edebiri, and Michael Stuhlbarg. While all actors are undeniably talented, Guadagnino’s remarks about Roberts stand out, as he expressed his high regard for her performance.
During an interview on the WTF with Marc Maron Podcast, Guadagnino stated:
[After The Hunt] is about what happens in the milieu of academia between older and younger people. It tackles the idea of consent. The movie is very provocative… I’ve been a fan of Julia forever. As a movie star, she has something that not everybody has, and, I’m trying not to be presumptive, but I feel like this is the best performance she’s ever given.
As a recipient of numerous prestigious awards—including an Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Critics’ Choice Awards—many find it difficult to envision a performance that could compare to her groundbreaking role in Erin Brockovich. If After the Hunt indeed showcases her talents at an even higher level, Roberts may very well be on the path to adding more trophies to her collection. Currently, there is no official release date or trailer available, but the film is anticipated to premiere sometime in 2025, and further updates are expected soon.
