Discover Dining Experiences on Disney Treasure: Worlds Of Marvel, 1923, and Plaza De Coco

Disney Cruise Line will unveil its latest vessel, the Disney Treasure, on December 21, 2024. Promising delightful adventures for families, the ship is designed to enhance dining experiences with a variety of specialty cafés, inviting lounges, and unique restaurants. Guests can enjoy diverse culinary offerings at Marceline Market and the Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods, while experiencing themed dining each evening at one of three signature restaurants: Worlds of Marvel, 1923, and the all-new Plaza de Coco.

The first two restaurants share similarities with existing offerings on the Disney Wish; however, each venue retains its unique charm. Plaza de Coco stands out as a fresh addition that celebrates Mexican culture through a vibrant performance each night, bringing to life the enchanting world of the beloved 2017 Pixar film. Each restaurant provides elements of adventure, comprising hidden gems related to the Disney legacy and opportunities for fantastic interactivity, perfectly aligning with the ship’s name, Treasure.

ScreenRant was fortunate to preview the Disney Treasure during a three-day press trip, experiencing one exquisite dining option at each of the ship’s main restaurants. Although official ship guests will enjoy two nights at each venue, the preview offered a taste of the anticipated menu, atmosphere, and entertainment. Exclusive interviews with key figures like Ed Whitlow, Director of DCL Artistic Operations, and Mario Trujillo, cultural consultant for Plaza de Coco, shed light on the enriching narratives awaiting guests.

Onboard the Disney Wish, guests enjoyed the immersive “Avengers: Quantum Encounter.” Worlds of Marvel will replicate this beloved experience aboard the Disney Treasure, while also introducing an additional adventure tailored for the seven-night cruise. “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix” focuses on the Guardians of the Galaxy, as Rocket and Groot host the evening’s festivities. Rocket’s antics leave Groot in charge for a night filled with interactive fun.

The restaurant’s décor is futuristic, complete with illuminating Quantum Cores at each table and themed charger plates bearing Avengers symbols. Guests can enjoy engaging Avengers trivia while waiting for their meals, with screens displaying iconic moments from Groot’s story, along with highlights from other Marvel characters, including glimpses of the Young Avengers.

The restaurant 1923, named to commemorate the founding year of The Walt Disney Company, provides a culinary experience inspired by California’s Golden Age of animation. While retaining many elements from its Disney Wish counterpart, 1923 boasts an extensive collection of concept arts that narrate Disney’s rich history. Though more serene than the other dining venues, dining at 1923 remains an exquisite affair, characterized by a relaxed yet sophisticated ambiance.

Dining services remain consistent with a dedicated staff serving guests across all restaurants, enhancing the shared experience among patrons. Among the standout dining experiences on the Disney Treasure, Plaza de Coco is a heartfelt tribute to the Rivera family, designed with care and attention. From the moment guests enter, they are welcomed into the enchanting world of Miguel Rivera, with an impressive ofrenda honoring Mama Coco and other beloved departed family members. The expansive dining area features a stage for live performances, including traditional folk dances from Mexico and performances by an authentic Mariachi trio, creating a magical dining atmosphere amid exceptional Mexican cuisine.

However, the heart of Plaza de Coco lies in its storytelling. ScreenRant Interview: How did the planning unfold for separating the two nights of storytelling?

Ed Whitlow: We aimed to create a profound immersion into the world of San Cecilia, which requires time. This approach influences not just entertainment but dining options and the overall atmosphere. We aimed for a warm, familial environment where guests genuinely feel they’ve stepped into the movie’s narrative. We continue the story three years ahead, where an older Miguel navigates his life as a teenager.

For Night 2, we envisioned a joyous celebration synonymous with Día de los Muertos, emphasizing family connections and memorable experiences along the way.

Mario Trujillo: What sets these performances apart is their unique entertainment. We exhibit a beautiful folclórico dancer from Mexico and a Mariachi trio that sensibly serenades guests with familiar and culturally significant songs, recognizing audience connections.

ScreenRant Interview: As the cultural consultant, what process ensured the authenticity of the experience?

Mario Trujillo: My role revolved around music selection and the performance’s musicality. I also contributed feedback on costume design to respectfully portray Mexican culture. The musical selections, including song lyrics, were thoroughly vetted to ensure our guests engage meaningfully with the entertainment.

ScreenRant Interview: With Miguel now a teenager, are there any subtle story details fans should notice?

Ed Whitlow: Witnessing Miguel mature into a Mariachi player is significant. His aspirations connect him with a newly formed family while he remains part of the larger family that includes all guests.

ScreenRant Interview: Do you have any favorite menu recommendations?

Mario Trujillo: The mole sauce is outstanding; I’m a proud mole snob and was pleased with its authenticity. I’d also suggest trying the enchiladas, which showcase a beautiful red chile flavor. Disney’s commitment to cultural fidelity is impressive.

Ed Whitlow: For something sweet, the flan and coconut tres leches cake are particularly delightful.
