Before the episode airs, let’s unravel the details surrounding Donald Hoop’s tragic fate.
What happened to Donald Hoop?
As highlighted in the synopsis, Donald Hoop, who lived in Brown County, Ohio, was ensnared in a toxic relationship with Joy Major Hoop, characterized as ill-tempered, cruel, and controlling by his daughter. Despite these warnings, Donald married Joy, leading to a series of events that ultimately resulted in his death from a gunshot wound.
On February 10, 1997, early in the morning, Deputy Buddy Moore of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office noticed a suspicious truck leaving Slammers Bar in Mt. Orab. Concurrently, the Brown County 911 dispatcher received an emergency call reporting a shooting from the Slammers parking lot.
Upon arrival, authorities found Joy Major Hoop hovering over the deceased Donald Hoop, victim of a gunshot wound. Sadly, efforts to resuscitate him were in vain, as he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Subsequent police investigation led them to a nearby home, where Kathy Kerr pointed them towards the bathroom. There they discovered Carl G. Lindsey attempting to clean himself, with blood-soaked clothes, a pocket knife, and ammunition in his possession. Additionally, Donald’s wallet, containing over $1,000 in cash, was found in the trailer, along with a. 22 caliber automatic pistol.
Lindsey was apprehended, and police also took Joy into custody. During questioning, Joy acknowledged discussing a plan to kill Donald with Lindsey, Kathy, and Kenneth Swinford earlier that day, although she dismissed it as a joke. Yet, given the toxic nature of her relationship, it seemed all too plausible that she could be behind the murder.
Where is Joy Major Hoop now?
Despite maintaining her innocence following her husband’s murder, the substantial evidence against Joy Major Hoop led the jury to convict her. She faced four charges, including conspiracy with Carl Lindsey to commit murder and three additional counts of complicity in the crime.
Joy was ultimately sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after twenty-five years. She is currently incarcerated at the Dayton Correctional Institution in Ohio.
On the other hand, Carl Lindsey received the death penalty for his involvement in Donald Hoop’s murder.
