Cursed status effects can pose a significant challenge in Divinity: Original Sin 2. This debilitating condition lowers various character attributes but does not incapacitate them outright. This state can lead to dire circumstances, particularly in higher difficulty levels like Tactician mode, making it crucial for players to understand how to effectively manage and cure cursed statuses.
When a character is cursed, their performance in battle drops dramatically due to reduced accuracy, agility, and elemental resistances. This vulnerability can easily result in defeat, making it imperative to know how to remedy such conditions quickly.
Curing Cursed Status in Divinity: Original Sin 2
There are three primary methods to cure the Cursed status:
- Bless – This is a Source Spell.
- Resurrection Scrolls.
- Reloading an earlier save.
Casting Bless
Bless is one of the most effective spells in Divinity: Original Sin 2, particularly for lifting curses from characters. As a Source Skill, it necessitates Source Points for casting. Initially, players will find themselves hindered by a Source Collar, prohibiting spell use until it is removed. However, being cursed is not immediately fatal, giving players some leeway in seeking a remedy.
To acquire the Bless skill, players must travel to the Hall of Echoes in Fort Joy and converse with their racial patron. The quickest route involves interacting with the Statue of the Seven located in the Hollow Marshes (Coordinates: X: 517, Y: 173), near the Flaming Pigs area. Caution is advised, as you may face ambushes from lurking Voidwoken in this area.
Additionally, Bless can clear other detrimental statuses, such as Diseased, Decaying Touch, Petrified, and Stunned, enhancing its utility in various combat situations.
Using a Resurrection Scroll
If you lack Source Points or haven’t removed your Source Collar, the next best option is utilizing a Resurrection Scroll. This method effectively removes most active effects, including curses, when the character is revived.
These scrolls can be acquired from various merchants, although they can be quite costly. For those looking to save gold, they can often be pickpocketed. In the later stages of the game, players generally find themselves with an abundance of gold, allowing for easy replenishment of these scrolls.
Furthermore, crafting Resurrection Scrolls is possible using the following recipe:
- Sheet of Paper + Water Essence + Life Essence
In Story Mode, every character gains a free skill to resurrect allies outside of combat without expending a Resurrection Scroll, simplifying the recovery process.
Necromancers have unique capabilities as well; utilizing the Living on the Edge (Level 9 Spell) and Last Rites (Level 16 Spell) combo enables a resurrection outside of combat. However, since these spells become available late in the game, Resurrection Scrolls remain the more viable option for most players.
Reloading an Older Save
This approach is straightforward: if you load a save from prior to the character being cursed, no resources are needed for the cure. This method is particularly practical if the curse resulted from a trap, as players can use summoned creatures to activate traps once more without putting their own character at risk on the second attempt.
Curing Curses from Cursed Items
Some items in Divinity: Original Sin 2 are cursed upon equipping, adding another layer of complexity to gameplay. The healing methods mentioned earlier apply likewise to these curse effects. However, a significant note: if a character equipped with a cursed item dies and is resurrected with a Resurrection Scroll, the curse will be reapplied immediately. Hence, players must recast Bless to remove it again.
In contrast, if the cursed item is unequipped before resurrection, the curse will not reapply. This distinction is crucial for effective combat strategy and resource management.
