Recently, netizens observed that rapper Doja Cat did not receive a nomination in the Best Live Performer category for the upcoming BET Hip-Hop Awards, which are set to air on October 15, 2024. Doja Cat’s absence from this nomination list prompted many fans to argue that she rightfully deserved a place among the nominees.
Numerous internet users expressed their belief that Doja Cat would surpass many of the other artists nominated in the Best Live Performer category. Fans took to social media platforms to share their reactions to this omission. Here are some highlighted responses from X, formerly known as Twitter:
“After she made a whole rap album they still shut Doja out meanwhile she’s the best live performer.”
A user tweeted:
“She absolutely bodies every single artist in this category 😭.”
“They should have replaced Cardi or Megan with Doja Cat. She’s definitely outperforming and out streaming both!”claimed another X user.
“What has Cardi performed to deserve to be there? Doja should have been there before her,”questioned another fan who clearly preferred Doja Cat over Cardi B.
While the majority of users felt it was unjust for Doja to be excluded, a few argued that she is a pop artist and therefore not fit for the category. A netizen wrote:
“She’s not a rapper 💀.”
“Because she doesn’t belong there,”commented another netizen.
“Yeah because it says hip hop. If it were generalized, she’d be there,”wrote another user.
Doja Cat Nominated for Song of The Year
Amidst the discussions supporting Doja Cat online, it’s important to highlight that she has secured a nomination in a different category for the upcoming 2024 BET Hip-Hop Awards. Her song Agora Hills from the acclaimed 2023 album Scarlet is competing for Song of the Year. Other notable artists nominated in the same category include Nicki Minaj, Sexyy Red, GloRilla, and Megan Thee Stallion.
In the Best Live Performer category, although Doja Cat wasn’t nominated, other prominent artists such as Burna Boy, Busta Rhymes, Drake, Cardi B, Missy Elliott, Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, and Kendrick Lamar made the list.
This year, Megan Thee Stallion leads with the most nominations at 12, while Kendrick Lamar follows with 11 nominations.
A report by Billboard dated September 18 featured a statement from Connie Orlando, EVP of music programming and strategy at BET, which stated:
“This year’s nominees exemplify the creativity and diversity of hip-hop and the culture.”
Orlando also oversees the production of the event. Fat Joe, who will host and co-executive produce the ceremony, shared:
“It’s been a dream to host the BET Hip Hop Awards the past few years, and I’m looking forward to taking things to the next level in Las Vegas.”
There are numerous other categories at the BET Hip-Hop Awards 2024, including Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Collaboration, and Best Breakthrough Hip-Hop Artist, among others.
The awards show will be available for viewing on BET on October 15, 2024.
