Donald Trump Alienates Queer Supporters Immediately After Acknowledging ‘Gays for Trump’ Community

Ah, the art of eloquence took a nosedive as Donald Trump graced the stage. During a fundraising event at Mar-a-Lago, a supporter shouted “Gays for Trump!” prompting the former President to quip, “You don’t look gay.” This remark was met with laughter from the audience.

While on the campaign trail yet maintaining a focus on his home turf, Trump hosted a fundraiser at his luxury resort in Mar-a-Lago. A snippet from the event circulated on X, showing a crowd member enthusiastically stating “Gays for Trump!” In response, Trump queried the audience, “Where’s Gay for Trump?” Once he identified the supporter, he retorted, “You don’t look gay.” This interaction sparked widespread discussion on social media, with some applauding Trump’s quick wit while others questioned his perception of what a gay individual should look like.

The notion that there exists a specific appearance for gay individuals is not only outdated but also absurd. Many found the exchange entertaining, enjoying the lighthearted banter that unfolded.

Gays for Trump

This group, representing LGBTQ+ individuals, openly supports Trump in his ongoing presidential campaign. Founded by Peter Boykin, an activist and Republican Party member, it originally emerged during Trump’s 2016 campaign.

In 2024, a notable figure within this movement is Scott Presler, who co-founded Gays for Trump with Boykin and has become a prominent voice in the right-wing LGBTQ+ circle. He has been actively engaged in voter registration initiatives across Pennsylvania, a key swing state, as well as nationwide. Presler has also taken the stage at “Stop the Steal” rallies, which made unfounded allegations that the 2020 election was compromised by Joe Biden and the Democrats.

Trump’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues has been inconsistent over time, particularly regarding same-sex marriage. Nevertheless, he is often perceived as being more accepting of the LGBTQ+ community than other high-profile Republicans. However, he has also advocated for several policies detrimental to the community’s interests. GLAAD, an LGBTQ advocacy organization, has documented Trump’s various attacks on LGBTQ+ rights in their Trump Tracker. Despite this, many Republican members of the LGBTQ+ community appear unconcerned about the potential rollback of rights that could threaten their liberties.
