The film “The Apprentice”has arrived, and it appears Donald Trump is not too pleased with the new portrayal of his early years, as depicted by Sebastian Stan. Directed by Ali Abbasi, the film explores Trump’s rise to power and his connection with attorney Roy Cohn, played by Jeremy Strong. The former president took to Truth Social to express his anger over the film, and it’s safe to say he is quite upset.
Despite the film taking creative liberties regarding Trump and Cohn’s activities during the 1980s, it still serves as an exploration of the controversial figures of that era. However, Trump did not seem to appreciate this cinematic interpretation. In his social media post, he stated, “This FAKE and CLASSLESS movie about me, called The Apprentice (Do they even have the right to use that title?), should hopefully ‘bomb.’”
From Trump’s viewpoint, the film appears to be a direct attack. Ironically, I find certain elements of the film portray him in a rather sympathetic light, as well as Cohn. Ultimately, I believe both men are emblematic of the 1980s villains in New York and throughout the United States. Just something to consider.
In addition to his initial remarks, Trump elaborated that the film is an attempt to undermine his political aspirations as the 2024 election approaches. He described it as “a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job aimed at sabotaging the greatest political movement in the history of our country, ‘MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!’”
In response, director Ali Abbasi suggested on X that he would be open to discussing the film with Trump directly.
Thanks for getting back to us @realDonaldTrump. I am available to talk further if you want. Today is a tight day w a lot of press for #TheApprentice but i might be able to give you a call tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/TU1b3Qg2rL

Trump’s Displeasure with the Ivana Narrative
Maria Bakalova portrays Trump’s former wife, Ivana, in the film. While her character is depicted positively, Trump took issue with a particular scene suggesting that he assaulted her during their marriage. Furthermore, Stan’s portrayal indicates that Trump had numerous infidelities and lacked attraction to her.
Trump countered that he had a good relationship with Ivana. He stated, “Ivana was a kind and wonderful person, and I had a great relationship with her until her passing. Gabe Sherman, the writer behind this disgrace, is a lowlife hack who has been widely discredited, knowing full well the truth but choosing to ignore it. It’s tragic that such HUMAN SCUM involved in this project are allowed to undermine a Political Movement much larger than any of us.”
Contrary to Trump’s claims, Gabe Sherman is neither a hack nor someone who lacks credibility. This reaction appears to stem from Trump’s dissatisfaction with how the film represents him. Ultimately, “The Apprentice”depicts Trump in two contrasting phases: as a youthful aspirant looking to carve out a name for himself in New York City and later as the powerful figure who resorted to lying and cheating to achieve success.
While Trump’s opinions on the film might not significantly concern me, his anger suggests that “The Apprentice”has struck a nerve. Ideally, it highlights for others the troubling traits Trump has long exhibited.
