Dragon Quest 11 offers players an expansive open-world experience, complete with diverse transportation options that allow for extensive exploration. While the primary storyline guides you through significant landmarks, numerous hidden locations await discovery. Among these is a notable spot known for its abundance of slimes: Slime Island.
Though officially referred to as Insula Orientalis in the game, it’s commonly recognized as Slime Island. This unique destination not only features a variety of slimes but also boasts an impressive spawn rate for metal slimes, particularly in the early stages of gameplay. To maximize your experience here, remember to save your progress after successful slime defeats.
Locating Slime Island in Dragon Quest 11 (Insula Orientalis)
To access Insula Orientalis, you’ll need to successfully progress through the main storyline until your party acquires a ship, followed by advancing to a point where the ocean is entirely navigable. Once this milestone is reached, navigate to the northeasternmost section of the map, where you will discover an island off the coast.
Consider using items like Holy Water or Holy Protection to ward off weaker enemies, facilitating a smoother journey to this remote island. When you arrive, dock your vessel on the western side of Insula Orientalis to explore Slime Island. As you advance in the game, be aware that the slimes here will also become more formidable, making subsequent visits a valuable endeavor.
Keep in mind that Insula Orientalis does not feature fast travel options, necessitating a ship voyage each time you wish to return.
Strategies for Finding and Defeating Metal Slimes on Slime Island
Slime Island is an excellent place for leveling up, as virtually every type of slime there yields substantial experience points. This is particularly advantageous when you first gain access to the island. However, note that metal slimes won’t appear in the overworld areas; your best strategy is to engage in combat with all slimes, fleeing if necessary, especially if your character Erik possesses high Deftness.
Should you encounter Metal Slimes, utilize skills like Metal Slash with the Luminary or any character equipped with a sword. Prioritize critical-hit abilities, such as Critical Claim or Jade’s Lightning Thrust, as they can eliminate these elusive foes instantly. Additionally, farming the less powerful metal slimes can yield Molten Globules, essential crafting materials for some of the game’s most powerful equipment.
