Easier Pokemon GO Gigantamax Max Battles Now Offer Enhanced Rewards

On October 29, 2024, Niantic unveiled significant updates to the Gigantamax Max Battles in Pokémon GO, responding to community backlash regarding the difficulty of 6-star Max Battles featuring Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur, which occurred on October 27 and 28. The next challenge, showcasing Gigantamax Gengar, is set to have a reduced difficulty level along with enhanced rewards and improved catch rates.

This article outlines the modifications Niantic is implementing for Pokémon GO Gigantamax Max Battles, effective from October 31, 2024, and discusses their potential effects on player engagement.

Halloween-themed Pokémon GO Gigantamax Max Battle to be simplified with added Stardust rewards

The Niantic Support page shared the following updates regarding Gigantamax Battles on their X account on October 29:

  • The upcoming 6-star Max Battles featuring Gigantamax Gengar will still present a challenge, but its difficulty level will be lowered compared to the battles with Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise.
  • Players will receive an additional 25,000 Stardust as a reward for defeating Gigantamax Gengar, on top of the regular loot.
  • Catch rates for Gigantamax Gengar will be improved compared to those for the Kanto starters mentioned on October 27 and 28.

While specific details about how the Gigantamax Gengar fight will be made easier were not disclosed, it can be speculated that the Power Spot boss may feature either reduced total HP or a slower attack rate.

These adjustments are expected to make it feasible for trainers to conquer these 6-star Pokémon GO Gigantamax Max Battles with fewer participants, thus making the mechanics more accessible than previously.

The inclusion of 25,000 Stardust as a reward will serve as a stronger motivation for players to engage in Max Battles. Stardust is a valuable resource in the game, and receiving such a significant amount at once elevates the perceived value of the effort.

Finally, it can be disheartening for players to see hard-fought victories end in their Gigantamax Pokémon fleeing. With improved catch rates, the chance of this occurring will be minimized.
