The Brutal Murder of Ed Bozarth
Ed Bozarth’s remains were found in a grotesque condition. Reports from CBS indicate that his skull was brutally smashed with a hammer. His body was placed inside a body bag and stored in the engine room of the boat, with a belt wrapped tightly around his neck. Ed’s body was discovered in a fetal position, obscured by a towel covering his head.
The grim discovery occurred days post the murder when the boat’s crew, alerted by a foul odor, decided to inspect the engine room.
Investigation and Suspects
The law enforcement team began their investigation by questioning Ed Bozarth’s wife, Denise Bozarth. Alongside Denise, another suspect was identified: a marina security guard named Dave Campbell.
According to CBS, it was revealed that Denise, although married to Ed Bozarth, had been having an affair with Dave. Prior to Ed’s demise, Denise had requested a divorce from Ed, further complicating matters.
Moreover, authorities discovered that Ed had more than $600,000 in a trust fund inherited from his mother. During inquiries, Denise shifted blame onto Dave Campbell, accusing him of being involved in the murder.
During his interrogation, Campbell disclosed critical information: Denise had allegedly expressed a desire to eliminate her husband, even offering $10,000 to anyone willing to execute the murder and stage it as an accident.
The Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Reports from CBS confirm that Denise Bozarth failed a polygraph test conducted in 2007. Despite not confessing initially and claiming that Ed abused her physically, she later pleaded guilty in 2012 after her arrest. She took full responsibility for Ed’s murder, alleging that he attempted to shoot her, prompting her to retaliate with a hammer.
In 2014, Denise pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 14-year prison sentence after a judge ruled her prior confession inadmissible, citing claims that she was denied legal counsel when she confessed.
Denise Bozarth has since completed her sentence and is now living as a free woman.
