Contestant from America’s Got Talent season 19, Emily Gold, was tragically found deceased by officers from the California Highway Patrol in Rancho Cucamonga on Friday, September 13. Officer Rodrigo Jimenez reported that her death occurred after she was struck by a vehicle in the carpool lane.
Emily Gold, a member of the Los Osos High School dance team, participated in season 19 of America’s Got Talent. The dance group succeeded in advancing beyond the live auditions and made it to the quarterfinals. Although they performed in the first week of the quarterfinals for America’s Got Talent season 19, they were eliminated in August.
Despite their elimination, their performance garnered a standing ovation from judge Simon Cowell, who described their act as “absolutely brilliant”and praised the team’s remarkable energy.
Emily Gold’s Death Under Investigation as Potential S*icide
Emily Gold, who passed away at the young age of 17, has been confirmed by PEOPLE to have died by suspected s*icide at 11:52 pm.
Officer Rodrigo Jimenez of the California Highway Patrol shared a statement with PEOPLE regarding the tragic incident, indicating that officers responded to a report about a “pedestrian down in lanes”on the eastbound 210 freeway in Rancho Cucamonga.
Upon their arrival, responders located a 17-year-old female who had been struck by “at least one other vehicle in the carpool lane of the eastbound 210 freeway.”Unfortunately, the talented dancer could not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officer Jimenez’s statement read:
“Officers from the California Highway Patrol Rancho Cucamonga area responded to a pedestrian down in lanes. When the officers arrived, they located a female, 17 years old, who was struck by at least one other vehicle in the carpool lane on eastbound 210. The female did succumb to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Authorities have urged anyone who was present during the incident or who has any information to contact their investigator, Officer S. Gonzalez.
Los Osos High School Announces the Passing of Emily Gold
A Los Osos High School alumna, Samantha Shaw, shared a message from Principal Eric Cypher directed to students and parents about the tragedy concerning senior Emily Gold.
“I’m sorry to share tragic news with you regarding a fellow Grizzly. Early this morning, a senior and beloved Grizzly, Emily Gold, has passed away.”
The message highlighted that Emily was a valued member of both the school’s Varsity Dance Team and Varsity Cheer squad.
“Emily was on both our Varsity Dance Team and Varsity Cheer squad; our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they grieve.”
Principal Cypher conveyed that counselors and therapists were made available for students and faculty seeking support regarding this heartbreaking incident.
“Our counselors, peer counselors, and district therapists will be available in our Wellness Center, D118, on Monday to speak with anyone who might need support. Thank you for reading this difficult message and please keep Emily and her loved ones and friends in your thoughts and prayers. I’m also available if you need to reach out to me.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been established by a community member to assist Emily’s family. Titled “Community Support for the Gold Family’s Loss,”the initiative aims to help the Gold family during this challenging time.
The campaign description indicated that all proceeds would “go directly to the family to support them and help with expenses.”
