Epic Return Of The Jedi Race Makes a Comeback After 27 Years: Two Events This Year!

After a staggering 41-year absence, the Return of the Jedi alien species known as the Theelin has made a remarkable comeback, appearing twice in the Star Wars universe within the last year. Renowned filmmaker George Lucas, famous for his inventive alien creations, seized the opportunity presented by the Star Wars Special Editions to unveil an array of fascinating extraterrestrial beings. One notable addition was Rystáll Sant, portrayed by Mercedes Ngoh, a multifaceted Canadian artist celebrated for her singing, acting, and yoga expertise. Ngoh added a vibrant flair to the musical ensemble performing in Jabba’s Palace.

Reflecting on her unique role, Ngoh shared in an interview with Star Wars Insider, “I have no idea what I was, I’m half-human and half I don’t know what else! I am definitely half-human, though!”This sentiment captures the essence of the Theelin, a nearly extinct alien race known for their hybrid genetic makeup, often merging with other species to survive. Surprisingly, these enigmatic beings are making a return to the screens in 2024, reigniting fan enthusiasm.

The Theelin’s Recent Comeback

Appearances in The Acolyte and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

The Theelin made their initial reappearance in the series The Acolyte, set a century prior to The Phantom Menace. This series introduced viewers to Dafne Keen as Jecki, a half-Theelin Padawan, who quickly became a standout character in the storyline. Keen’s background as a skilled stunt performer significantly contributed to her impressive fight sequences, highlighting the physicality and dynamism of her role.

Furthermore, the surprise continuation of the Theelin narrative was seen in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, featuring Paloma Garcia-Lee as Melna. Set against the backdrop of the pirate haven Port Borgo, Melna showed compassion toward a group of children, though she was taken aback by their claim of hailing from the fabled treasure planet of At Attin. Her character was notably endearing, embodying a blend of naivety and sincerity amidst the chaotic environment of a shadowport.

Dafne Keen has evidently paved the way for the revitalization of the Theelin lineage in Star Wars. The resurgence of this alien race aligns perfectly with Lucasfilm’s advancements in makeup, prosthetics, and costuming. With a considerable gap of 27 years since their last appearance, it seems we may be entering a new era for the Theelin. Much like the visual effects teams that resurrect iconic starships using advanced 3D modeling, the legacy of George Lucas’ Special Editions is being revitalized in unexpectedly delightful ways with the introduction of The Acolyte.
