Essential Characters for the Next Court of Thorns & Roses Book by Sarah J. Maas

Warning: This article contains spoilers relating to Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses, Crescent City, and Throne of Glass.

Sarah J. Maas is currently in the process of finalizing her A Court of Thorns and Roses series, with expectations that the next installment will carry forward a theme first introduced in House of Flame and Shadow. The concept of a multiverse, often referred to as the “Maasverse,”has been hinted at in her fantasy works for some time. The third book of the Crescent City series notably features Bryce venturing into the ACOTAR universe, representing Maas’ first series crossover.

With the multiverse framework firmly established, fans are buzzing with speculation about the possible reintroduction of some favored characters in future ACOTAR novels. Notably, since the wyrd gates trace their origins back to the Throne of Glass saga, it opens up exciting possibilities for the inclusion of characters from Maas’ inaugural series. Among the most compelling candidates for reappearance is Aelin Galathynius, a character who consistently captivates readers.

In the concluding chapters of Kingdom of Ash, Aelin experiences a moment of transcending between worlds, where she witnesses a winged Fae male embracing his pregnant partner, widely interpreted to be Rhys and Feyre from A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Out of all her characters, Aelin Galathynius stands out as one of Maas’ most well-crafted heroines. Although her own storyline has concluded, her expertise could serve great narrative functions in a future A Court of Thorns and Roses novel. Aelin’s pivotal role in sealing the wyrd gates in her universe places her in a unique position as the foremost expert on “world-walking.”As Maas continues to build on the multiverse concept, reintroducing Aelin could enrich the plot immensely.

Sarah J. Maas has repeatedly hinted that both A Court of Thorns and Roses and Crescent City are far from their conclusions, with numerous additional novels planned for the coming years. The crossover in House of Flame and Shadow appears to be just the beginning of a more extensive multiverse narrative, especially given the enthusiastic reception from fans.

However, as the release of the sixth novel in the ACOTAR series looms, it’s still uncertain how deeply the multiverse will be woven into the story. Assuming that the forthcoming installment will devote significant attention to Elain’s character development and romance, Maas may initially opt for subtlety in her multiverse exploration. This does not preclude the potential for more expansive multiverse elements in later installments, and the upcoming ACOTAR book is likely to lay the groundwork for those developments. Given the numerous parallels and connections among Crescent City, A Court of Thorns and Roses, and Throne of Glass, an eventual crossover seems not only possible but highly anticipated.
