Eva Mendes’ Kids Age Revealed: Actress Shares Journey of Feeling Lost but Fulfilled as They Grow Up

Eva Mendes recently discussed her changing self-image after becoming a mother during her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on September 19, 2024.

Host Drew Barrymore opened up about feeling lost after having children, prompting Mendes to share her own experience. She replied:

“I felt very clear but then I felt lost, if that makes sense. Then when it was like the cliché of, ‘Okay well, who am I now after the kids can survive on their own?’”

For those who may not know, Eva Mendes is the mother of two daughters with her actor husband, Ryan Gosling, whom she secretly married in 2011. Their daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee, are now 10 and 8 years old, respectively.

Mendes mentioned that while she had some uncertainties during the early stages of motherhood, as her kids matured, the experience felt “different”for her. Discussing the transition from being a new parent to a mother of pre-teens, she expressed her happiness, stating:

“They don’t need me every second. It’s a little different. But I love talking to my girls about anything, so I feel very fulfilled.”

Eva Mendes’ children watched her films, but they were “not impressed at all”

Eva Mendes took a break from acting in 2014 to focus on raising her children with the La La Land star. During her conversation with Drew Barrymore, she reflected on the importance of her kids, saying that a career may come and go, but children are “only little once.”

During another chat on September 18, 2024, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Mendes shared that as her daughters have grown, she has allowed them to watch some of her previous films for both enjoyment and educational purposes.

Mendes recounted a memorable moment when she let her kids view a scene from Hitch. She expressed pride in her physical comedy performance, despite her initial fears, and wanted to share that with her children. Mendes remembered:

“I played it for them, and I was like, ‘This is mama facing her fear.’ And, anyway, they were not impressed at all.”

While the actress didn’t clarify whether her children’s indifferent reaction stemmed from her acting or the “fear”she referenced, she noted that her daughters had a vastly different reaction to their father’s performance in the Barbie film. Mendes explained that her daughters were instrumental in convincing Ryan Gosling to accept the role of Ken in the movie.

She humorously mentioned having 30 Barbie dolls in their home and only one Ken, leading Gosling to think, “there’s something”there.

In a separate interview with Good Morning America on September 17, anchor George Stephanopoulos inquired if Mendes was considering a return to acting; she responded, “I don’t know.”

Mendes elaborated:

“If there’s interesting roles. I left at a time where it was also, 10 years ago. I kinda felt like I did it, ya know?”

She reflected that after her role in Lost River (2014), where she worked with Gosling, she felt it was an ideal moment to step away from the industry, comparing her exit to Seinfeld’s famous departure.
