Exciting New Promo Card Unveiled in Pokémon TCG 2025 Edition

Exciting New Promo Card Unveiled in Pokémon TCG 2025 Edition

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is set to unveil a fresh type of promotional card next year. While these cards won’t be playable in official matches, they are expected to delight collectors. Beyond individual booster packs, the Pokémon TCG frequently offers various boxed collections, which typically include exclusive promotional items such as jumbo cards, posters, or figurines, alongside occasional unique promo cards.

In 2025, the Pokémon TCG will launch a novel promotional item as part of its boxed sets. According to a report from the Pokémon TCG news portal PokeBeach, a Special Collection tied to the upcoming Journey Together set will feature jumbo-sized lenticular cards. Lenticular cards are crafted from specialized materials that create a dynamic image, shifting based on the viewing angle, allowing images to “animate”or transform between different characters. Historically, the Pokémon TCG has released only one lenticular card — a promotional Deoxys card for the movie Destiny Deoxys. This highly anticipated Special Collection is scheduled for release on April 11.

Journey Together will be the second major set released in 2025, following the special Prismatic Evolutions set debuting in January. This set is particularly notable for reintroducing Trainer’s Pokémon — a unique category of cards linked to trainers from various Pokémon video games. Although these cards do not possess distinctive mechanics, they often enhance the synergy of other Pokémon cards and receive boosts from various Trainer cards.

Alongside the Special Collection, Journey Together will feature several boxed sets. Reports from PokeBeach also hint at the release of an ex Collection box containing promo cards and postcards, the latter being an element not seen in Pokémon TCG products for over two decades. An ex Premium Collection is also anticipated in April, showcasing an acrylic standee. Specific details and pricing for these collections remain undisclosed.

Our Perspective: Emphasizing Unique Collectibles Over Exclusive Cards

Preference for Unique Promo Materials Over Exclusive Cards

As a devoted Pokémon TCG collector, one consistent challenge I encounter with Special Collections is the prevalence of exclusive premium cards. Although these cards can be sourced from the secondary market, the idea of valuable cards being effectively “locked”within a collection priced at $20 or more is far from appealing.

I would much prefer to see creative promo materials, such as lenticular cards and acrylic standees, which would add an exciting visual aspect to collection displays. It’s refreshing to witness the Pokémon TCG embracing innovative designs for their boxes, which may enhance their appeal and encourage more enthusiasts to invest in them moving forward.
