In a blend of nostalgia and creativity, a fan-designed LEGO set inspired by the iconic PlayStation 2 may soon become a collectible reality. This innovative set aims to allow enthusiasts to piece together their very own replica of the acclaimed gaming console, complete with its controllers and internal components crafted from LEGO bricks.
Since its launch in 2000, the PlayStation 2 has held the title of the best-selling gaming console ever, a position it maintained until being surpassed by the Nintendo Switch in December 2024. During its impressive run, over 4,000 games were released for the PS2, racking up global sales of more than 160 million units. Even 25 years later, discussions around the PS2’s impactful legacy remain vibrant in gaming circles, largely due to major titles from franchises such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Grand Theft Auto, which are frequently hailed as some of the greatest games of all time. Recently, the imaginative efforts of a fan, who goes by the username RippleDrive, have sparked excitement in the gaming community, as their design has the potential to be mass-produced and enjoyed by fans around the globe.
RippleDrive shared their proposal on the LEGO Ideas platform, where it has garnered significant backing, piquing the interest of the Danish toy company for potential production. If approved, this set would not only offer LEGO fans the chance to build a detailed PS2 but also to create its controllers, memory cards, and intricate internal components. Currently, this ambitious project comprises over 2,000 pieces, closely mirroring the non-slim version of the PS2 in scale. While the outcome regarding Sony’s endorsement remains uncertain, supporters are hopeful that this design could soon arrive in retail stores. RippleDrive expressed their reasoning for choosing the PS2 as “my favorite video game console of all time,”and noted the success of video game-themed LEGO sets.

Sets based on titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Super Mario 64 captured the interest of fans. Additionally, the November release of LEGO Horizon Adventures for PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch introduced a unique set featuring protagonist Aloy alongside ally Varl and fully articulated versions of iconic enemies such as the Sawtooth and Shell-Walker.
The resurgence of LEGO video games created by Traveller’s Tales has further rejuvenated interest, particularly with games like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which achieved remarkable success post-launch in 2022. Though no new LEGO games have been confirmed for 2025, fans remain eagerly optimistic, speculating that exciting new crossovers—possibly including a fresh LEGO Marvel title—could soon emerge.
