Exciting Overwatch 2 x Avatar Skin Concept Showcases Missed Opportunities

Overview

  • Fans have proposed a creative Junkrat skin inspired by the Cabbage Merchant.
  • Some players argue that Ashe would have been a more fitting choice for the Avatar crossover, given the connection with the same voice actress.
  • Blizzard prioritizes iconic characters for the Avatar event rather than lesser-known figures.

Overwatch 2 enthusiasts are buzzing about a missed opportunity in the game’s recent Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover, particularly regarding a potential Junkrat skin. Collaborative events between Overwatch 2 and other franchises are a popular feature of the hero shooter, and players frequently suggest ways the game could expand its reach. The response to the Avatar-themed event showcases this creativity, as fans have even crafted their own skin concepts to illustrate their ideas.

This recent crossover has introduced a range of six Avatar-themed skins to Overwatch 2. Among them are an Aang-inspired cosmetic for Zenyatta and a Zuko skin for Genji. These selections generally align well with the unique abilities of the characters — for instance, Mei donning the guise of Katara reflects her ice powers’ similarities to waterbending. However, some players believe Blizzard may have missed out on including a few standout characters, paving the way for fan-designed alternatives.

Fans Demand Additional Avatar-Inspired Skins

Someone mentioned Junkrat should have gotten a Cabbage Merchant for the Avatar collab, I loved the idea and wanted to bring it to life. by u/drawnbyjared in Overwatch

The Cabbage Merchant isn’t the only character that fans feel should have received attention during this collaboration. Before the event commenced, many on Reddit argued that Ashe would have been a superior choice, considering she shares a voice actor with Avatar’s June. Although Junkrat and the Cabbage Merchant both share a whimsical quality, they don’t possess an equally strong connection.

While the concept of a Junkrat skin inspired by the Cabbage Merchant is certainly imaginative, it is understandable why Blizzard opted not to include it. Both characters are secondary in the original story, and while they may leave an impression on fans, their limited screen time makes them less of a priority. Therefore, it makes more sense for the developers to center their attention on mainstays like Katara and Zuko. With the announcement of an upcoming Avatar RPG set thousands of years before the original series, it seems unlikely that the Cabbage Merchant will make an appearance—unless perhaps a distant descendant finds their way into the storyline!
