The festive season in Phasmophobia brings an eerie twist, where even the spirits seem unbothered by the holidays, forcing paranormal investigators to keep their wits about them. Since launching in late 2020, Kinetic Games’ indie horror masterpiece has expanded its player community and seasonal events, enhancing the gaming experience year after year.
This year is no exception; the 2024 Christmas event, titled Winter’s Jest, promises unprecedented thrills with the notorious Krampus making an appearance. Prepare to dive into a mix of new and returning features, and gear up to collect all holiday rewards!
Winter’s Jest Event Overview
Kicking off the festivities, the Winter’s Jest event for Phasmophobia takes place from December 12 to December 31, 2024. This year’s theme revolves around Krampus, a legendary figure in folklore who accompanies Saint Nicholas, meting out punishment to those on the naughty list. In this twist, he’s set to challenge all ghost hunters who dare to encroach upon his territory.
As with the recent Halloween event, Winter’s Jest emphasizes community engagement. Players must work together to achieve collective goals in order to unlock exclusive rewards. To kickstart your involvement, check the new Winter’s Jest Event brochure located at the bottom right side of the Event Board for details on how to participate:
- Accurately identify ghosts (your contributions count even if your investigator is eliminated, as long as you correctly circle the ghost type in your journal).
- Complete optional objectives.
In response to player feedback from the Halloween event, Kinetic Games has significantly reduced the points required to complete each stage, making it more accessible for everyone to achieve their goals. Now, completing optional objectives grants 3 points each, while finding Krampus Boxes also earns 2 points. Identifying the ghost correctly during an investigation nets you a hefty 10 points.
The rewards for each event milestone include:
- **Stage 1:** Krampus ID Card (includes badge)
- **Stage 2:** Upgrade ID Card (animated version)
- **Stage 3:** Krampus Trophy (to be displayed in your headquarters trophy case)
Each map within the event, marked with festive red gift icons on the Map Board at HQ, presents distinct snowy weather, holiday decor, and elusive Krampus Boxes to locate. The number of these boxes varies by map size:
- Tanglewood Drive (1-3 Krampus Boxes)
- Point Hope (2-4 Krampus Boxes)
- Bleasdale Farmhouse (2-4 Krampus Boxes)
- Maple Lodge Campsite (4-6 Krampus Boxes)
Strategies for Tackling Winter’s Jest
As you navigate this unique seasonal event in Phasmophobia, here are several key tips that will make your ghost hunting experience smoother and keep you one step ahead of Krampus.
Avoid Early Judgments Based on Freezing Temperatures
Given that the snow weather dynamic maintains consistently low temperatures across all maps, avoid making hasty conclusions about ghost locations based solely on this evidence. Instead, leverage other investigative tools to hunt down Krampus. Motion Sensors alert you to ghost movements, while Sound Sensors can help you identify ghost activity through noises like thrown objects.
Pinpoint Fixed Locations of Krampus Boxes
The Krampus Boxes’ quantity may vary on each map, but their locations remain static. Be vigilant when searching for these faded red boxes adorned with a star, as they can easily blend into the environment. Utilize a Flashlight or Headgear to spot them, then interact with the box to reveal Krampus’ head when you turn the crank.
Opt for Amateur Difficulty for Faster Investigations
Collecting points for ghost identifications is essential for progressing in the community event, but the difficulty level of your investigations does not influence your contribution. To expedite finding the ghost’s room and identifying it, consider reducing the difficulty to Amateur for quicker clears, regardless of the reward multiplier.
Engage in New Daily and Weekly Event Tasks
This year’s Winter’s Jest introduces exciting Daily and Weekly tasks tailored for the event. Completing these challenges not only awards you additional Event Points but also offers significant monetary rewards, making them worth your while.
Team Up with Friends for Enhanced Gameplay
Finally, consider partnering with friends to tackle the Winter’s Jest challenges effectively. Collaborating can significantly streamline your investigations, assist in locating Krampus Boxes, and enhance overall gameplay. Thanks to the crossplay feature now available with Phasmophobia’s console release, you can team up with fellow investigators across different platforms.
