After a relatively quiet year for Pokemon in 2024, the upcoming year could hold significant excitement for fans, particularly if recent rumors come to fruition. With Pokemon Legends: Z-A already confirmed for a 2025 release, a credible leak from the renowned source Riddler Khu hints at the possibility of an additional mainline Pokemon game launching in the same year. While skepticism is warranted given the speculative nature of these claims, there are compelling factors that lend some credibility to this information.
The Pokemon Company and Game Freak have verified Pokemon Legends: Z-A as a mainline title, which is a critical distinction. Traditionally, it might seem unusual for two major Pokemon titles to debut within the same fiscal calendar, but the circumstances surrounding this potential release window could make it feasible. The franchise notably skipped a mainline entry in 2024, and with the anticipated launch of Nintendo’s next-generation Switch anticipated for 2025, capitalizing on consumer interest with multiple releases could be a strategic move. Past patterns also support this; for instance, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were released mere months before Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
More Pokemon Surprises Await Fans in 2025
In a recent update on X/Twitter, CentroLeaks highlighted that Riddler Khu has been suggesting the existence of another mainline Pokemon game for 2025 beside the officially announced Legends: Z-A. Notably, this unannounced title is claimed to be excluded from the Teraleak that surfaced in October 2024 and is distinct from the upcoming Generation 10 games. While this information is intriguing, it is essential to approach Riddler Khu’s insights with caution.
Although Khu has provided accurate leaks in the past, their reliability has fluctuated. For instance, prior to the confirmation of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Khu suggested that the next mainline releases would be remakes of Pokemon Black and White. However, this proved incorrect when plans for Legends: Z-A were unveiled. If Khu’s new speculation about a second mainline game for 2025 proves true, it may restore faith in the leaker’s previous claims, contingent on the nature of this forthcoming title.
The Possibilities for Pokemon’s Second Mainline Game in 2025
The future of Pokemon games holds a variety of opportunities based on the earlier Teraleak, including a possible multiplayer game known as “Synapse.”However, since this rumored mainline entry is suggested to be separate from the Teraleak, the range of potential games could be broad. One candidate is a new Pokemon Let’s Go title inspired by the Johto region, although this may seem improbable given that the original Let’s Go games were closely tied to the popularity of Pokemon GO.
A more plausible scenario involves the remakes of Pokemon Black and White, which Khu alluded to back in late 2023. Given that 2025 will already spotlight Generation 5 through the recently announced Pokemon GO Tour: Unova and two new Generation 5-themed sets in the Pokemon Trading Card Game, the timing may not simply be coincidental. This alignment could bolster support for the idea that this unannounced mainline title could indeed be the long-desired Generation 5 remakes.
The precedent set by Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl alongside Pokemon Legends: Arceus, demonstrates that simultaneous mainline Pokemon releases can occur. Should Game Freak concentrate its efforts on developing Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it’s feasible that ILCA or another developer could simultaneously work on the Black and White remakes. With Pokemon Day approaching at the end of February, the community might not have to wait long to uncover the truth behind these rumors.
