“No One Will Save You”stands out as an overlooked masterpiece; it’s among the most gripping alien invasion films of the 21st century. Interestingly, the film exists with only five spoken words. If it had added just another five, would the conclusion have been clearer?
At Times, One Must Be Their Own Savior
The plot of “No One Will Save You”revolves around a young woman named Brynn (portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever), who resides in a quaint home located in an ordinary small town in America. To support herself, she engages in sewing and sells her creations online, crafts a miniature model town within her home, and grapples with the absence of her mother and best friend. Additionally, she faces scorn, hostility, and maltreatment from the local residents. And let’s not forget the alien encounters; they definitely add to her list of challenges.
One fateful night, Brynn discovers that her town is under siege by alien invaders determined to annihilate humanity. While the extraterrestrial beings invade her home, Brynn, despite their advanced technology and telekinetic abilities, taps into deep-seated human fury to fight back. Beneath her seemingly gentle exterior lies a fierce survivalist. With a blend of intelligence and sheer ferocity, she devises ways to outsmart and eliminate many of the aliens attempting to capture her.
At one moment, she falls into the aliens’ grasp, who then implant a creature in her mouth that triggers hallucinations. This leads her to briefly reunite in her mind with her best friend and mother, making her believe she is cherished. However, rather than surrendering to this illusion, she violently extracts the alien entity from her body and destroys it. What a fierce act!
Ultimately, the aliens overpower Brynn, abducting her and bringing her aboard their spacecraft. Utilizing their psychic abilities, they delve into Brynn’s memories, revealing a dark moment from her past where she fatally harmed her best friend with a rock during a childhood dispute. Even with a heavy heart and a desire for redemption, the community completely alienates her. After witnessing Brynn’s troubled history, the aliens reach a conclusion. They opt to brainwash the townsfolk using hallucinogenic parasites, opting to leave Brynn unharmed.
But why?
The motives remain unclear, but two theories arise. The first suggests that Brynn’s painful past garnered the aliens’ compassion, while the second implies they hold her violent nature in high regard. The specifics of their plans for Earth remain a mystery, yet Brynn appears unconcerned, now surrounded by her once-hostile small-town residents transformed into submissive, brainwashed followers.
