Ex-Rockstar Developer Hints at Possible GTA 6 Delay Until 2025

The excitement and anticipation surrounding GTA 6 has plunged fans into a whirlwind of emotions, particularly after the recent news regarding a potential delay of the game. Although initial rumors about this delay were quickly debunked by a credible journalist, the possibility of a GTA 6 delay remains on the table, possibly pushing the release to 2025. A post on X by Obbe Vermeij, a former developer at Rockstar who contributed to earlier Grand Theft Auto games, indicated on September 15, 2024, that a decision on whether to postpone the game would likely not be made until around May 2025.

Vermeij also suggested that the next installment in the series is expected to generate sales for over a decade. Continue reading for more insights on his comments and their implications for the ongoing GTA 6 delay discussion.

GTA 6 Delay: Drawing Parallels to the Delay of GTA 4

Obbe Vermeij’s analysis suggests that Rockstar might consider delaying the release of GTA 6 by several months past the current target of late 2025. He referenced the situation with Grand Theft Auto 4, where the decision to delay the game was made only a few months prior to the expected launch.

Regarding Rockstar Games’ approach to determining if a GTA 6 delay might be necessary, Vermeij pointed out:

“R* is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish.”

He elaborated that the company is under little pressure to release the game in 2025:

“GTA VI will sell for 10+ years and there is no competition to worry about. They are not going to release the game until they’re 100% happy with it. No matter what it said in the trailer.”

Fans and players worldwide should take note that Vermeij clarified he was not privy to any insider information regarding a potential GTA 6 delay, but rather shared his perspectives on the current situation.

Any official updates will likely come directly from the developers, potentially alongside the eagerly awaited second trailer for the game later this year.
