A recent rumor has surfaced on the internet suggesting that pop icon Taylor Swift is contemplating a permanent move out of the United States. This speculation first appeared on Thursday, September 19, 2024, via a post from the SpaceX Fanclub on Facebook.
The Facebook post showcased a collage featuring the “Lover”singer alongside the Statue of Liberty, accompanied by the text:
“Taylor Swift Is Considering Leaving the US Permanently: ‘What Did I Do Wrong?’”
However, the post’s caption clarified that the message was satirical. The SpaceX Fanclub noted that they do not share factually accurate news, which indicates that Taylor Swift is not leaving the US permanently.
This rumor gained traction after Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in the lead-up to the November 5 polls, announcing her support on Instagram on September 11.
Taylor Swift is not planning on leaving America permanently
On September 18, the SpaceX Fanclub shared a post claiming that the pop sensation Taylor Swift “is considering leaving the US permanently.”
The satirical post accumulated over 2.1 trillion reactions and 1.7 trillion comments at the time of writing. The page explicitly states its focus on satire.
“We post SATIRE, nothing on this page is real,”the Facebook page’s bio stated.
The same sentiment was echoed in a pinned comment on the post, which also linked to a story on the satirical news site Esspots.
According to the article, Swift is purportedly contemplating leaving the United States, the very country that propelled her to global fame.
The report claimed that Swift is experiencing both political and personal backlash, prompting her to question her position in the country she once proudly called home. The outlet reported that she has been under attack from various factions since the stir created by her endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. It added that Swift confided in close friends about her feelings, stating:
“I thought people wanted me to speak up. I thought using my platform for good was the right thing to do. But now, it feels like no matter what I do, it’s wrong.”
Further, the article claimed that Swift has been pondering her future in the U.S., saying:
“She’s been saying for months that maybe it’s time to go. The criticism, the hate—she just doesn’t understand what she did wrong. And now, she’s thinking maybe the U.S. just isn’t the place for her anymore.”
This narrative ties back to Swift’s endorsement of Harris, which was intended to encourage her fans to support the politician. Instead of receiving accolades, she faced considerable backlash, particularly from conservative circles who argued that her views detached her from her fanbase. Nonetheless, it remains untrue that the singer plans to leave the country.
For those unfamiliar, following the Harris-Trump presidential debate hosted by ABC on Tuesday, September 10, Taylor Swift expressed her support for Kamala Harris on Instagram.
In her post uploaded on September 11, she announced that she had “made my choice”after “doing my research”and voiced her support for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, in the upcoming elections.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,”her post read.
As of now, Taylor Swift has not made any official comments regarding the persistent rumors.
