On September 18, 2024, BIGHIT MUSIC, which is now part of HYBE, premiered BTS’ Jungkook’s documentary, JUNGKOOK: I AM STILL, in theaters globally. While fans generally appreciated the documentary, they expressed disappointment over the credits at the conclusion. The controversy revolved around how Jungkook’s solo track, Never Let Go, was credited.
Although the song was performed exclusively by Jungkook and he was recognized as one of the writers—alongside well-known contributors such as Melanie Fontana, Anton Martin Mendo, Bak, Jesse Bluu, Michel “Lindgren”Schulz, Sim Fane, and Tobias Dekker—fans felt the song’s classification as a BTS group song in the documentary was misleading.
Social media erupted with criticism directed at HYBE for failing to properly acknowledge the idol’s contributions. Many fans insisted that Jungkook’s dedication and input on the track deserved clearer recognition. A user on X, @DavyWer, expressed their discontent, stating,
“Of course, that company had their paws on this documentary too, we saw from some clips already. But was it too much to at least get the credits right??? F this, get out of that place pls, Jungkook. That company needs you, not otherwise.”
“Why is it credited to BTS in ‘I Am Still’ credits? He solo branded it when it was released, BTS isn’t in the performing credits of the song. Why does BIGHIT MUSIC insist on taking from his work any chance they get?”a fan commented.
“Not a single thing related to jk without credit issues,”another user mentioned.
“Of course they did. They have done this to Jungkook time after time after time. It’s all about money and control,”an X user commented.
Fans also highlighted that this was not the first time the label has made similar blunders, urging them to start giving the artist the credit he deserves.
“This is so tiring! When will they give proper credits to Jungkook!?”a fan remarked.
“AGAIN WHEN WILL THOSE PEOPLE LEAVE JK ALONE AND GIVE HIM THE FULL CREDIT,”a netizen commented.
“Seriously… I can’t with that company… No more,”a fan mentioned.
