Fans Defend EXO’s Baekhyun Amid Controversy Over Indoor Vape Smoking Footage

On Monday, September 16, a video surfaced online showing EXO’s Baekhyun allegedly vaping indoors. The clip was recorded during his solo engagements in Macau, where he was seen smoking at a restaurant amid a group of people.

The footage prompted a wave of criticism from netizens, many of whom highlighted that indoor smoking is considered illegal in Macau. Nevertheless, a number of fans came to Baekhyun’s defense, asserting that as an adult, he has the right to make his own choices.

While there was consensus that smoking indoors was inconsiderate to those around him, fans stood firm in their defense against the backlash he received for smoking in general.

INB100 Issues Apology Regarding EXO Baekhyun’s Indoor Smoking Incident

On September 16, following the online circulation of the video depicting EXO’s Baekhyun smoking indoors, his agency, INB100, released an official statement. They clarified the circumstances surrounding the incident and issued an apology for the idol’s behavior, stating that both Baekhyun and the agency were unaware of the laws against indoor smoking in Macau.

The statement read:

“We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable regarding the recent incident involving our artist’s indoor smoking, which has been circulating online. At the time, neither the idol nor our staff were aware that Macau prohibits the importation of electronic cigarettes.”

INB100 further explained the incident:

“During a meal with staff after the Macau performance, as the conversation deepened, Baekhyun unconsciously used an electronic cigarette. He deeply regrets his careless actions and sincerely apologizes for disappointing many fans.”

The statement concluded with:

“Both the idol and our company will ensure that such incidents do not happen again by exercising greater caution, and we promise not to disappoint fans with similar situations in the future. We will also do our best to show a more mature side of Baekhyun.”

INB100 affirmed their commitment to preventing similar incidents going forward.

On September 6, Baekhyun released his fourth mini-album titled Hello, World, which features six tracks, including the lead single Pineapple Slice.
