Warning: Spoilers for Eddie Brock: Carnage #1 In a surprising twist, Eddie Brock has transitioned from being a renowned hero and infamous anti-hero as Venom to embracing the role of Carnage. Despite his history of employing lethal methods, Eddie has endeavored to distance himself from that darker side of his nature. Now, however, he faces a daunting challenge: managing his more sinister impulses while bonded to a new, bloodthirsty symbiote, as he takes on the mantle of a “killer of killers.”
Eddie has been synonymous with Venom for years, but the upcoming series Eddie Brock: Carnage, crafted by Charles Soule and artist Jesus Saiz, marks a significant change. Soule elaborated on this new narrative direction in a statement to Marvel.com, explaining that to justify killing for Carnage, Eddie will target those who are themselves serial killers. However, he emphasizes that “Carnage is also an addict, and addicts need bigger and bigger highs.”
The first look into the new storyline reveals Eddie aboard a plane where passengers seem to be under the influence of a mysterious symbiote. As he pushes towards the cockpit, he stumbles upon a gruesome scene that sets the stage for his new reality.

The Carnage Symbiote: Marvel’s Ultimate Serial Killer
Inside the cockpit, Eddie is confronted with the shocking reality of the Carnage symbiote as it executes the pilots mercilessly. Following this horror, Eddie finds himself back in his apartment, and although the details of their bond remain unclear, both Eddie and the symbiote must establish boundaries for their coexistence. Despite his recent attempts to embody heroism, the Carnage symbiote is insatiable and will push Eddie to fulfill its demands. He has devised a plan to ensure that the symbiote only targets serial killers.
Yet, the crucial question lingers: can Carnage be satisfied with merely hunting serial killers over time?
Is Eddie Brock on the Brink of Losing His Morality Again?
The Risk of Reverting Eddie’s Heroic Journey
Marvel’s roster is filled with serial killers, but none compare to the notoriety of the Carnage symbiote. Its craving for chaos is so profound that it once attempted to transcend its murderous nature to become a God-Butcher, hunting deities themselves. Transitioning from a thirst for divine blood back to targeting habitual killers will be quite challenging. As Soule notes, like any addict, Carnage’s cravings will only grow, seeking more significant and impactful victims.
Eddie Brock must find every means possible to appease Carnage. With separation not being a viable option, he must continuously seek out those deemed worthy of death. Thus bonded with Carnage, Eddie Brock may pose a greater danger to villains than he ever did while acting as Venom.
