The initial installment of Five Nights at Freddy’s was in the works at Blumhouse Productions for roughly a decade before its release in 2023. This adaptation loosely followed the storyline of the video game series, showcasing a variety of the notorious animatronics. The film turned out to be a major success, garnering nearly $300 million at the global box office and breaking records to become Blumhouse’s top-grossing film internationally. Following this triumph, Universal Pictures quickly greenlit a sequel, which will continue the narrative that began in the original, where Hutcherson portrays Mike, the security guard at the haunted Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria.
Shooting for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is slated to begin in New Orleans later this October, with Hutcherson collaborating once again with director Emma Tammi. In a recent interview with Esquire, Hutcherson stated that this sequel will take everything to a larger scale, noting that filming is expected to run from October until the end of January 2025. “It’s much bigger, and the stakes have escalated,”Hutcherson remarked about the sequel, adding that “new animatronics are being introduced, expanding the universe significantly.”He further stated that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will delve into scarier territory.
