Exciting New Content and Characters
Genshin Impact has unveiled compelling new gameplay footage featuring Mavuika, Citlali, and Lan Yan during the latest developer livestream. Notably, the update will present Lantern Rite skins for beloved characters Hu Tao and Xiangling. While Version 5.3 won’t introduce a new region to Natlan, it promises to deliver an extensive array of content and features. In addition to the new characters, players can finally acquire the Pyro Traveler throughout the Archon Quest. This version will also conclude the main narrative in Natlan, complemented by a dedicated Story Quest for Mavuika and a unique Tribal Chronicle for Citlali.
Lantern Rite Festivities and Rewards
Scheduled for the latter half of Version 5.3, the Lantern Rite festival will allow players to earn a total of 20 Intertwined Wishes through login rewards and in-game mail. Additionally, players will have the opportunity to invite a free Liyue 4-Star character of their choice, including the newly introduced Lan Yan. The much-debated Chronicled Wish from Version 4.5 will reappear in this update, showcasing Liyue characters like Shenhe and Ganyu, who haven’t seen reruns in quite some time.
Character Abilities and Gameplay Dynamics
The recent livestream also showcased the specific combat and exploration capabilities of the upcoming characters. Mavuika is expected to function primarily as a hypercarry, while players can utilize the Pyro Archon as an off-field support character, similar to Raiden Shogun. On the other hand, Citlali will serve as the game’s third 5-Star Shield Support, providing Cryo Shields to teammates, dealing off-field Cryo damage, and enhancing damage output for Pyro and Hydro characters through Melt and Freeze reactions, respectively.

Upcoming Character Banners
This version will also see the introduction of new character skins for Xiangling and Hu Tao, expanding their visual appeal for players. The event banners for Version 5.3 will feature Citlali and Mavuika prominently in the first half, while Arlecchino and Clorinde will be available later. Additionally, Lan Yan will accompany these two 5-Star characters, marking a historic moment as it’s the first time in Genshin Impact’s history that two new 5-Stars are debuting in the initial half of a version — a significant shift from the norms established during the Inazuma era.
Future Character Teases
The livestream provided a sneak peek at forthcoming Genshin Impact characters. While their silhouettes were shown, attentive viewers spotted Iansan, Dahlia, Ifa, and Skirk among the upcoming roster. The developers took this opportunity to tease the future region of Snezhnaya, though players will have to remain patient for more footage regarding Nod-Krai and the seventh playable area of Teyvat. Mark your calendars—Version 5.3 is set to launch on January 1, 2025.
