Genshin Impact 5.3 – New Characters & Banners
Introduction of Four New Characters
HoYoverse has officially announced four new playable characters for this update. Among them, the Pyro Traveler will unlock new abilities through significant story developments, becoming accessible to all players who progress through the new Archon Quests in Natlan. Reports indicate that the Pyro Traveler will serve as an off-field sub-DPS, potentially offering a replacement for Xiangling, a long-standing choice for that role.
The next notable character is Mavuika, the Pyro Archon, a new 5-star character equipped with a claymore. Mavuika will feature two unique combat forms: one using her claymore and another where she utilizes her Flamestrider motorcycle, enabling her to function both as a main DPS and an off-field Pyro sub-DPS. This enhanced mobility will add an exciting dynamic to gameplay, allowing her to cover various terrains swiftly. Notably, she can even achieve brief flight with her Flamestrider.
The third addition is Citlali, a 5-star Cryo character, who wields a catalyst. Unique to her design is the ability to apply Cryo effects through Normal Attacks. Citlali will focus on shielding allies while facilitating Cryo-related reactions like Melt and Superconduct. Her special ability, Nightsoul Transmission, enhances her mobility, allowing for gliding mechanics reminiscent of other characters.
Lastly, Lan Yan, a 4-star Anemo character from Liyue, rounds out the roster. Equipped with a catalyst, she deals Anemo damage while offering shields and triggering Swirl reactions for her allies. Lan Yan can adapt her shield’s properties to match her teammates’ elemental types, providing tactical versatility. Additionally, her ultimate ability can group enemies together, akin to the skills of Sucrose and Kazuha.
In terms of banners, the Phase 1 banners will showcase both Mavuika and Citlali, while the Phase 2 banners will rerun Arlecchino and Clorinde. Lan Yan will debut with an increased drop rate in Phase 2 and will subsequently join the standard loot pool. Speculation also suggests that Phase 1 banners might last the entire patch, although HoYoverse has yet to officially clarify this.
There will also be a new Chronicled Wish featuring popular 5-star characters from Liyue, including Baizhu, Shenhe, and Ganyu among others. HoYoverse has recognized previous restrictions on entries into this Wish and has relaxed those rules to allow for the addition of highly anticipated characters.
Genshin Impact 5.3 – Natlan Story Updates, Lantern Rite, & Other Events
A Variety of Activities for Rich Rewards
Version 5.3 will introduce the concluding Natlan Archon Quests, where Mavuika and the Traveler unite to confront the Abyss’s influence threatening the Pyro Nation. While specific mission details remain under wraps, it is expected that the journey culminates in a battle against the new weekly boss, Lord of Eroded Primal Fire.
The update will also unveil a new world boss, providing materials necessary for Citlali’s Ascension. In addition to the main Archon Quests, players can participate in Mavuika’s Story Quest and the third act of Masters of the Night Wind, rewarding players with exclusive materials upon completion.
This patch will coincide with the annual Lantern Rite Festival, with Hu Tao featured prominently in the event. Players can expect new skins for both Hu Tao and Xiangling—Hu Tao’s skin being premium and Xiangling’s free as a Lantern Rite reward. Other activities will allow players to obtain a 4-star character from Liyue, including the newly released Lan Yan.
Log-in bonuses will reward players with 10 free wishes and materials, alongside another event offering 1,600 Primogems via email notifications. Additionally, special rewards like the limited-time Xbox glider will be available for players logging in during Version 5.3, excluding Xbox users.
Other expected events include a new permanent rhythm game mode, a battle event, and an evolved version of the Beetle Battle. Moreover, several quality-of-life updates are set to enhance gameplay, such as the removal of cooldowns on world bosses and an expanded Artifact inventory limit. With all these features and activities slated for Genshin Impact 5.3, players can anticipate an engaging start to 2025.
