A new GTA Online update has been rolled out specifically for PC, featuring the highly anticipated BattlEye anti-cheat. Starting today, September 17, PC gamers can download this update, which integrates the renowned anti-cheat software into the game. This enhancement aims to eliminate the issues caused by hackers and cheaters that have rendered multiplayer experiences unplayable for many players.
BattlEye is third-party anti-cheat software designed to detect individuals who hack or exploit vulnerabilities in online multiplayer games. It supports a “global”ban system that prevents hackers from easily switching accounts if caught.

While the new anti-cheat system is a welcomed update for GTA Online, there are concerns regarding modding in single-player mode. Thankfully, players who enjoy customizing their story mode can find some relief.
As per a report from GTANet on September 17, 2024, players can disable BattlEye using a toggle in the game’s launcher. This feature is designed to allow modifications in the story mode without fear of being banned.
Although BattlEye isn’t flawless, it marks a significant improvement from Rockstar Games as they prepare for the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is expected to introduce an even larger multiplayer experience.
