Minun, the adorable electric-type Pokémon, was introduced to Pokémon GO in December 2017, alongside the original set of Hoenn-region Pokémon. Seven months later, in July 2018, trainers were thrilled to see the release of its shiny version. Since then, players have had various opportunities to capture Minun, especially during special events dedicated to this Pokémon.
The upcoming event, A Magnetic Study, from October 15 – 17, 2024, marks the latest occasion to celebrate Minun along with its partner, Plusle. This event promises to bring Minun back into the spotlight.
This guide outlines all the methods available for players to catch Minun in Pokémon GO.
Methods to Capture Minun in Pokémon GO
- Wild Encounters
- Raid Battles
- Research Encounters
Wild Encounters
Since its initial launch, Minun has been available as a random wild encounter. Its spawn rates see a notable increase during specific events, including:
- Charged-Up Research Day
- Pokemon GO Tour: Hoenn – Global
- Valentine’s Day 2022
- Spotlight Hour on January 18, 2022
- Spring into Spring 2021
While finding Minun in the wild isn’t guaranteed, you can enhance your chances by using a Magnetic Lure module or exploring areas where rainy weather is prevalent.
Raid Battles
Trainers can find Minun as a one-star raid boss with a CP of 5,097 during select events. Ground-type Pokémon with CP above 2,000, equipped with suitable Fast and Charged Attacks, should be adept at defeating it.
After overcoming Minun in the one-star raid, players can encounter it with CP ranging from 1,138 to 1,210 if the weather is rainy. Without a weather boost, it will typically appear with a CP between 910 and 968.
Research Encounters
Throughout the years, Minun has been obtainable as a reward for various Field, Special, and Timed Research tasks. Notably, during the A Magnetic Study event, players can earn it as a reward for completing each phase of the Timed Research until October 17, 2024.
Additionally, players can complete the following Field Research tasks for a chance to encounter Minun during the event:
- Catch 10 Pokémon
- Spin five PokéStops or Gyms
- Send two Gifts to friends
Is Shiny Mine Available in Pokémon GO?
Shiny Minun has been part of Pokémon GO since the GO Fest in 2018. Typically, the chance of encountering a shiny variant is 1-in-512; however, during special events like A Magnetic Study, the odds significantly improve to 1-in-64.
