This film represents the first installment of a two-part finale for the Haikyu!! project, showcasing the intense showdown between Karasuno and Nekoma, effectively wrapping up the beloved anime series that began airing in 2014.
Upon its debut, Haikyu!!: The Dumpster Battle achieved remarkable success, topping the Japanese box office with an impressive ¥2.23 billion (approximately $14.6 million) generated in its opening weekend and ultimately crossing $100.4 million in international earnings.

Haikyu!!: The Dumpster Battle continues the storyline from the anime, which comprised four seasons, with the last one titled Haikyu! To The Top! This season aired in two cours: the first from January to April 2020, and the second, which faced delays due to the pandemic, broadcasted from October to December 2020. The announcement for the two-part cinematic conclusion came in August 2022, while the release schedule for the second film remains unconfirmed.
The film is crafted by the talented team at Production IG, featuring several key people from the original anime series.
