Hayden Panettiere recently addressed the controversy surrounding her mental health and sobriety after fans expressed concern for her well-being following an interview with People magazine. In an Instagram post on Sunday, September 22, she shared her perspective, stating she felt “forced”to confront the situation.
“It’s unfathomable that I’m even in this position, but I feel forced to address it in a space where I won’t be criticized for how fast or slow I speak,”she wrote in her post.
For those who may not be aware, People released a clip of the interview with Panettiere on Wednesday, September 18, via Instagram, which led to significant backlash from viewers. In the video, the actress appeared to slur her words and had glazed eyes. Many social media users argued that the publication should not have shared the clip.
The Amber Alert actress explained in her recent post that she was “exhausted”during the on-camera interview, which followed several hours of filming. She detailed:
“I hadn’t slept for two days prior to the shoot due to one of my dogs who was recovering from an emergency surgical procedure. It was an 8-hour shoot followed by an on-camera interview that was supposed to last for 1 hour.”
Hayden Panettiere further clarified that her representative, who was present during the shoot, “stopped the interview early”after it became evident that she was “fading.”
She continued by sharing that when they proposed redoing the entire interview on another day or conducting a follow-up via Zoom, the interviewer allegedly stated that “it wasn’t necessary.”Additionally, the magazine reassured them they would edit the footage and that “it would be a good piece.”
Hayden Panettiere emphasizes it’s “none of anyone’s business”if she’s on medication
Hayden Panettiere also tackled the claims made by social media users suggesting she was under the influence during the People interview. She asserted that such inquiries were personal matters.
“Grief looks different on everyone. Whether or not I am on medication is none of anyone’s business and is between me and my doctor.”
The actress previously shared her grief regarding her brother’s passing due to an enlarged heart during the interview with People, expressing that she “will always be heartbroken about it.”
In her latest Instagram post, Hayden Panettiere mentioned she is participating in interviews to promote her latest film, which she feels proud of. She further indicated that the root cause of the recent controversy was the “toxicity of social media and a news cycle that is driven by clickbait.”
Panettiere also expressed appreciation for those who supported her throughout this ordeal while calling out individuals “hiding behind a computer screen.”She added that their comments can “have a detrimental impact on someone”and reiterated the significance of mental health, stating she is “a work in progress.”
