Understanding the Threat: Illuminate Faction in Helldivers 2
The Illuminate faction brings a formidable challenge to the battlefield in Helldivers 2. Among their most significant threats are two imposing structures: Monoliths and Cognitive Disruptors. These installations not only enhance the faction’s defensive capabilities but also disrupt player strategies, making their destruction critical for mission success.
Engaging the Illuminate becomes exponentially more challenging when Monoliths and Disruptors are operational. If traditional methods, such as launching explosives, aren’t yielding results, it’s time to explore alternative tactics. Below are detailed strategies for effectively dismantling these structures.
Strategies for Destroying Monoliths
Monoliths serve as primary objectives during Illuminate Invasion campaigns. These towering edifices are typically well-protected, and their presence seems to continuously spawn Voteless enemies, enhancing the urgency for their elimination.
Current intelligence indicates that traditional heavy ordinance, such as Eagle 500kg Bombs and Orbital Precision Strikes, are ineffective against Monoliths. Instead, players should rely on the Hellbomb, the most potent tool available for this specific task. However, before deploying a Hellbomb, it is crucial to clear the surrounding area of threats, primarily the deadly Tesla Towers that guard the Monolith. These towers can eliminate a Helldiver in a single shot.
The Tesla Towers themselves can be destroyed using explosives. A well-placed grenade is often sufficient. Relying on ballistic or energy weapons without the requisite demolition force may prove ineffective. If your armament can annihilate smaller structures like Bug Holes or Automaton Fabricators, it might not penetrate the defenses of an Illuminate Tesla Tower. As such, Impact Grenades prove to be the most effective means of neutralizing these formidable defenses.
It is imperative to exercise extreme caution when approaching a Monolith, as contact results in immediate death, and proximity can significantly hinder player movement.
Techniques for Neutralizing Cognitive Disruptors
While visually similar to Monoliths, Cognitive Disruptors have a distinct function: they interfere with stratagem code inputs. Upon approaching a Disruptor, players will notice fluctuations in their HUD, leading to randomized stratagem inputs every few seconds. Although comparable to the Stratagem Jammer seen in Automaton missions, Cognitive Disruptors allow for stratagem usage despite their disruptive effect.
While you can still utilize your available stratagems when near a Cognitive Disruptor, these devices cannot be destroyed outright like Monoliths. Instead, they are disabled by targeting the power supply units located nearby. These components resemble capsule-shaped alien technology and are generally arranged in a pattern around the Disruptor. Eliminate all of these power sources to effectively shut down the Disruptor.
While bombarding a Disruptor with explosives might occasionally yield results, the quickest method for neutralization involves rushing in to shoot the power supply units. Though less critical than Stratagem Jammers, taking down Cognitive Disruptors promptly can significantly enhance mission flow and efficiency.
