Hideo Kojima recently shared insights into various projects at Kojima Productions, including the much-anticipated Physint— a PlayStation-exclusive title and successor to the iconic Metal Gear series. After diversifying with Death Stranding, a critically acclaimed open-world game, and the horror title OD for Xbox, Kojima returns to his roots with a new stealth action experience, much to the excitement of his loyal fans.
First unveiled during the January 2024 PlayStation State of Play, Physint is described as a “next-gen action espionage game.”Currently in its early pre-production phase, the game is set to enter full development after the release of Death Stranding 2, which is scheduled for 2025. While no gameplay footage has been revealed, Kojima expressed his intent to leverage the latest technology to create a groundbreaking experience.
In a year-end update via his official Twitter account, Kojima expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout 2024. His team has been engaged with multiple projects, including the promotional efforts for Death Stranding 2 and audio recording sessions. Unfortunately, the development of Physint faced setbacks due to the SAG-AFTRA video game strike, which has delayed casting decisions. Kojima aims to refocus on Physint in 2025, post-strike.

Besides Physint, the SAG-AFTRA strike also affected the development of Kojima Productions’ Xbox-exclusive title, OD. Due to the strike occurring in the latter half of 2024, critical aspects such as actor and environment scanning were put on hold. Moreover, Kojima mentioned other projects he tackled in 2024, including the creation of a new episode of HideoTube and preparations for a live-action adaptation of Death Stranding.
While detailed information about Physint remains scarce, it is clear that Kojima envisions a rich, cinematic experience deeply rooted in stealth and espionage gameplay. Following a health scare in 2020, he felt a renewed commitment to craft this project, especially in light of fan requests for a return to the Metal Gear series. The timeline for Physint suggests that it may arrive after Death Stranding 2, which some speculate could influence its exclusivity on PlayStation 5 or potential future consoles.
